Turn Assist: anyone been hassled by the police for it?

Hey,

I notice turn assist (the feature whereby a fog light comes on whilst a car is taking a corner) is more and more apparent on new MBs.

I'm curious enough to ask if anyone has been questioned by the police by their 'use of fog lights unnecessarily' since when turn assist is operating, it looks like you are driving your vehicle with a) one fog lamp on and b) fog lights on in perhaps the wrong conditions! Seems that an officer could easily get the wrong idea if they saw the car driving like this and was not aware of the feature on the car, which I guess has had type approval for use in the UK.

Any thoughts?

I've had funny looks from pedestrians when I turn a corner, when the fog light comes, on then goes off as they are about to tell me about it.

So I reckon they are not on long enough for the Police to worry about anyway, although it is an interesting legal question.:dk:

The fog lights also flash when the indicator bulb fails too.

A light of many uses :)

No hassle - apart from the odd "one foglight not working" comment. Living in the sticks i find them quite useful.

And touching on the points in the other thread, the EU conformance regs for lights were changed a while back and included using foglights for cornering, flashing brake lights, temporary substitution, leds, etc. Any vehicle that has an EU conformance certificate can use all its functions legally in the EU.

We've had clarification about this. A fog light coming on temporarily whilst corning due to Turn Assist (or whatever other manufacturers call it) is not an offence.

Both fog lights on permanently when not necessary is an offence though I've yet to go beyond a verbal warning. Yet.......

My 13 year old Subaru legacy had "turn assist" lights - which were not the foglights but special wide angle lights. Nobody ever flashed at me or pointed/waved but never the less I took the bulbs out 'cos I thought it was a daft idea and would probably be pulled by the fuzz eventually for having wonky lights..

Might bring tears to you eyes.....!!!!

erm, possibliy having a senior moment here, active steering yes, active cornering yes, active braking yes I can grasp those but active lights what's their purpose?

Its to warn the lycra clad numpty on the mountain bike with the IPOD blasting Bonnie Tyler's " I want a hero" into his ears that you--- Nigel--- deep in conversation with your broker on the "hands free" and busy stabbing the sat nav buttons in an ineffectual attempt to bring up "even the ****** UK would be nice" on the menu are possibly going to turn left at the next exit---and mow him down!! ;)

Active lights and even active brakes I can grasp, but active steering is a new one on me.

Doesn't that describe indicators?

My cornering lights illuminate the road edge and into the corner - very handy when turning into the lane for home and Mr Badger is out for a stroll.
