Hi,

I would be very grateful if someone could help this newbie convert from a BMW......

I have just baught a W211 E320 CDi Estate which comes with the Command sat/nav/DVD/Phone system, hovever it doesn't have a TV tuner fitted.

I know an original Mercedes analogue/digital tuner can be bought and fitted, however costs a small fortune and needs the Command system reprogrammed via the Startec tool or something of it's like.

I have heard that there a electronic modules that can be bought and attached to the back of the Command system, and then a 3rd party tuner added to the module to give TV via the AUX input.

Has anyone tried this method and do they know where to buys the required parts, i.e. extra witing harness if needed, ariel etc.

Also, what type of reception have people achieved with their non-mercedes TV tuners.

I would also like to connect a playstation or reverse camera sometime in the future.

Ajnabi................:)

It will require connection to the star diagnosis at some point as the head unit probably won't know about the tv tuner/AV interface.

HI,

I think my Command system does have an AV option in one of the menus, but not too sure if it's for the Audio or Video inputs. I will check tonight.

So, if I don't have the Video AV option, that means it will still need to be progammed by someone who has Star diagnosis?

Thanks......

You can buy a kit from MBENZNL and have it installed in 2 weeks time by yours truly. 60% that you will need a new COMAND unit (exchange swap).

It can be done but there are car specific aspects to this. Keyless go, IR glass both affect the choice of replacement antenna with TV function.

as well as your choice of analog and digital tuners.

Going off at a tangent....does in-car TV require a TV licence ?

Well according to our government in Ireland, yes, not sure about the UK.
