Two Tonne Bully

Another day at the track, another personal best. Best time was 11.8s at 117.7MPH with a 1.8s 60ft!!

Very happy with this! Especially as I think I can get another 0.1 in the right conditions. Very strong headwind today, and a higher density altitude of about 150m hence the slower MPH.

Still struggling with launching, definitely still need to take it easy off the line as it wants to spin. It's about finding a good roll out speed, and easing into the throttle with the right aggression. I managed it at least once, hence the 11.8 time. The rest were 12.1 or 12.3 if I really messed the launch up.

IATs were all starting at 38-39C, and peaked at 60-61 for every run. The only exception was the first run after the lunch break where starting IAT was 34C.

Boost was up slightly to 11.4 psi, but take that with a massive pinch of salt. I'm using an iPhone app that has an extremely slow refresh rate, so not accurate for fine readings like that. But under the same conditions, last time boost never went over 11.0 psi.

I think my belt is slipping though, as the readings seemed slightly erratic (I record the my phone screen as a video to compare), and the supercharger belt is very frayed despite being about 6 months old). I've ordered a Gates HD green belt from the US, which gets great reviews. Doubt it will come before end of the month though.

My plan for the last 2 track sessions this year is to go to Shakespeare County Raceway. I've been told in places the track is a little rough (mainly after the finish line) but it's a much faster track. Better launches and the track seems to always have a tailwind, whereas Santa Pod always has a headwind. And you can still watch the cars run even from the staging lanes.

Met a guy there with a new mustang with a Roush supercharger. He had some wide Mickey Thompson Street Radial tyres on the stock 19" wheels that looked killer. He was running about 11.1 with a 1.6 60ft, which is incredible on a 19" wheel! To put some on mine will be about £650. I think once I get the 77mm or 74mm pulley I'll get a pair.

And another one...

New Best: 11.72s at 119.86mph!!!

Went to Shakespeare County Raceway on Saturday... much faster track. Better grip off the line, and no headwind. Not only that, but temperature and Density Altitude were much less favourable, yet still set a new Personal Best at this track, and that was after like the 4th hot lap. I was trapping 120mph for a few runs too. I have one more chance the last weekend of this month to try and get into the 11.6s. It was unusually warm for October (over 20C), if temps are lower around 10-12C, should get 11.6s.

That's fast. Very fast. Great result!

Just for records purposes, the Density Altitude was 255m(837ft) for that 11.72s at 119.86mph.

The 11.8s was at 150m DA. So this new improved time is just related to grip and lack of headwind. There was an actual 10mph tailwind which is probably a factor too.

Hopefully if the last day at the track is nice cold October air, the DA will be close to 0, hopefully negative, and can run an 11.5 at 121mph!

Few photos of last weekend at Shakespeare County Raceway.
Gave my camera to a friend who has never done photography and managed to get some keepers.

Believe it or not, I caught this car half track. I think he was having some top end problems.

Really hoping I didn't have to race this dragster haha

Some great photos there!

Thanks, can't take credit for snapping them, but I did edit and tweak them a bit.

Also did a quick little upgrade today. Supercharger belt was looking a little worn, so I got a new Gates HD green belt, and got it slightly smaller than previous to get it a little tighter for better grip. Supposed to help prevent slipping at high RPM, doubt I can feel a difference, but it certainly looks better.

Belt came from America, got it off eBay and came in about a week. Gets really good reviews in America.

Really need to detail the engine bay, looking bad.

Old belt fraying in a few places.

Little tighter, but went on pretty easily.

11.44s at 122.1mph, 60ft time 1.69s.

Absolutely brilliant day out at Santa Pod today. Cool temps, dry and sunny. Density Altitude was down to -280 feet (-85m) which is honestly one of the biggest factors for making power and going fast at the track, every thing else equal.

Only down side is it was ram packed today, busier than I've ever seen it. Stayed almost all day 10AM to 4PM and only got 3 runs in, just queuing. A few crashes and cleanups made things even worse.

Tyres I've been using all year (apart from first trip back in May), are Nankang AR-1s. They're road legal track tyres, but not drag tyres at all. Better grip than normal street tyres, but way too stiff to get the best launch out of them. But I've just about figured out how to get a good launch out of them. The 1.69s 60ft time is my best launch, and that was with a 22psi and a long 2nd gear burnout. They may get even better with lower PSI and longer burnout, but not enough practice to find out.

There was an event at the track yesterday, so I think they still had some good VHT track prep left from day before. Good grip today.

After Acid's 11.1 E55 estate, I reckon I might be 2nd fastest UK M113K car in the 1/4 mile.

Little more data for those that are interested.

Ambient temps = 11C (52F)
Starting IAT before burnout = 24C (75F)
Starting IAT after burnout = 28C (82F)
Finish line IAT = 53C (127F)
Density Altitude = -85m (-280ft)

Awesome time, Awesome Pic's! You have had a cracking day!! :)

Excellent result Sami. 10s in the new year?

If I still have the car. :D

I reckon a smaller pulley, water:meth, 82mm TB and drag radials on 16" CLK alloys should dip me into the 10s in the same conditions.

Pulling the charger off in a car park though... (I don't have a garage currently) makes me a little anxious.

Not updated much recently, as not a huge amount of changes.

Went for big service, including transmission serviced and replaced all 16 spark plugs too, as it was about that time. 1 step colder.

And finally took off the AR-1 semi-slicks LOL!! Also needed a balljoint replaced.
