Hi.
I see sometimes people referring to their cars having "52 plate" or "53 plate".
Being from Norway I have no clue what this means, and would really appreciate it if someone would be kind enough to explain what it means, so I am able to follow the threads a little better.
Thanks in advance.

02 plate is early 2002 but 52 is late 2002.Same for the 53

Since 2001, UK regs have used the new number system to show when the car was registered. So starting off from a 51 plate for cars registered between September 01 and February 02 and then 02 plate for cars registered between March 02 and August 02. It carried on like that till March 2010 when it switched to 10 plate for cars registered between march 10 and August 10 and it will be 60 plate for cars registered between September 10 and February 11 and carries on like that again till the end of the decade.

It looks like this on a car: KK 52 JJC

Ahhhhh...

Thanks a LOT everyone.., and Pappilo in particular.:thumb:
Very helpful info. Bet there are more foreigners than me here who have been enlightened.:bannana:

I believe the UK is one of the few countries in the world that age relates it's registration numbers for its vehicles. Just typical of us Brits!! Most registrations are just serial numbers and some countries will add an age identifier on the plate (such as Portugal) but it is not actually a part of the number itself. My mum's car in Portugal has an age tag of 10/99 at the end of the plate.

Ireleand (ROI) also use a very visible age identifier on their registration plates.
