Undercover police cars as ambulances?

By driving so close to the car in front were they also in danger of encouraging him to drive faster......is that entrapment?

At night, it's actually fairly hard to read reg numbers whilst checking them... It is necessary to get closer than you'd think. I can't really see a routine stop at night representing harassment though.

in our local area focus ST and a VXR astra as unmarked vehicles ...

What a waste of money

The job in hand is chasing stolen vehicles.

They are the best tools for the job.

I would rather have those on the tail of some muppet in a stolen car than a big estate Volvo or 4x4 which is not designed for agility.

Good point. The fleet discounts on Ford and Vauxhall are immense when it comes to Police vehicles. It's the only way to explain the 1.4 Astras we were shafted with a few years ago!

Some time ago Volvo were offering 740 Turbos (when they were current) in Police Spec at less than half the showroom price.

Many manufacturers offer cars on extended loan to Fleet Managers at nil cost.

Either way, giving them the right tools for the job is fine by me.

Up until abou 4 years ago Essex police where sill using an aging E34 535i it was one of the last E34s on an N plate and it was bright red.

Didn't the caravan reduce performance too much for police work....

I know Yorks have a GTi golf, but up here its MB C classes and BMW E60 & E90 models. Would have put a wager that a RWD car like a c or 3 series could change direction more quickly than a torque steering VXR.

Italian forces have a lambo but when they catch the c*** where do they put him unless they cut the yob and put him in the small boot.

People seem to think im an unmarked car in my White W204 , well the all seem to toe the line and pull in behind me :)

How is it, didn't know you actually had it already. I think the 204 would make a cracking cop car and reckon they'll be on the forces soon. Strathclyde have a fair few E90 tourings (assume 330d/335d with tuning box) lurking and seems a better bet than a full scale 5 or E.

Wasn't that just a publicity thing though??

Spotted yesterday a w204 CID car at Excel London

my bosses son was stopped last year whilst driving his dad's new beemer - two uniformed police men asked him to exit the car - one got in the drivers seat and drove off whilst the other one head-butted him and sped of in his car - having seen the antics of the police in london last week - i wonder if they were genuine policemen or not - nothing would surprise me with todays police force

 surely not the same as this one:

My old friend who is likes his beer was returning from a gig in Leicester in his BMW 525d when he got pulled over for undertaking by a police patrol car. He'd been drinking lightly all afternoon and immediately tries to divert the conversation by referring to the police patrol car - also a white BMW asking how the officers found the fuel consumption etc etc (!) - You can guess the rest - 'have you been drinking , sir?' - life flashes before him (needs the car for his work et etc) - as the officer was escorting my mate to his patrol car, a lorry jack-knifes on the opposite lane of the motorway - the police officers tell my mate to stand on the other side of the barrier and wait for them. The officers run to the other carriageway to try and control the situation. 5 minutes pass. My mate is now feeling panicky and makes a mad dash for the beemer and slips off down the motorway un-noticed.... got away with it .

Following morning he's at home thinking what a close shave - could have been driving licence, job and home - gone- all for a stupid drink. At lunchtime there's aknock on the door - two Policemen ask him where he was last night - and are told at home in bed - wife vouches for him. Thay ask if they could see his car. feeling smug, my mate takes them out the garage to see his car knowing they had nothing on him- roller goes up and there sits a gleaming white BMW - but with Bedfordshire Police on the bonnet !! In his panic the previous night he'd jumped into the wrong beemer and driven home !! Police have confiscated his car, seized his driving licence and he's in court in April. - and one of the first two police officers was suspended from traffic duty.

Around my area ive seen a Subaru WRX police car quite a few times, didnt think they'd use one of them.

I still remember the good ole days when some unmarked police cars were sapphire cosworths!!

In Coventry we have a 07 BMW 5 series undercover plod car and a fully marked W211 estate....

been followed by the BMW when i was on my motorbike once, good job i glanced in my rear view and saw the big blue lights attempting to hide between the grill.....

I used to work as a bouncer at the local night club, one time on the way home i was being followed by an old escort with 2 lads in the front, thought it was probably just a few blokes that had the hump after being thrown out that night and that they would, like usual, just go there own way by the time i got near home (i lived an hour away, dont **** on your own doorstep and that!) But as i turned into my village i see them still there so i slowed down, took my belt off and wraped it around my hand as it rather handily had a buckle that formed a knuckle duster of sorts when wraped right. I slamed the brakes on, jumped out and ran at the drivers door, the lad jumps out, in plain black shoes, plain black combats, and a black polo shirt with a tiny little reflective Police badge on it.. Apparenty they thought the car was stolen or something and wanted to see where i was taking it....
