It is now roughly six months since I purchased my 2005 CL600 biturbo. It was purchased from the MB main dealer in Ayr under the Mercedes approved used scheme, and came with 12 months tier one warranty. The car on purchase had roughly 32K miles on the clock, easy entry, keyless go,command, lingutronic, seats with heat, massage, memory etc, alacantra head lining,Dvd,19 inch AMG wheels, garage opener, plus other extras that have slipped my mind.
The car was like new (honestly)even the brake calipers were like new. The blue protective plastic was still on the chrome door sills and on the door edges.
Due to a small problem (resolved) with the paperwork, I had the dealer do a complete service prior to sale, and I do mean complete. Plug change (24 plugs) Oil and filter change ,brake fluid, coolant, all filters including cabin.

Having read horror stories about the CL, I was expecting things to fall off or break on a daily basis, and those bits left over would rust through at the first sight of a rain cloud.
People notice when things go wrong and relate the problem to other members of the forum (this is normal) people want to know if others have had the same problems, ergo, when the car runs well there is nothing to write about.
I have now done 3K, apart from a faulty Air con compressor, and a faulty evaporator sensor the car has been perfect, even the faulty compressor had a silver linning, as the dealer had a lot of the front of the car in
pieces, I had him replace the polly V belt at the same time, no labour charge as they had to remove the belt to replace the compressor (cost of belt? £27 inc vat).
The car has an effortless turn of speed, is very comfortable and almost silent, the only noise being that from the tyres.

I am what I would describe as a 'spirited driver' the car has averaged just a tad over 20 MPG, for such a large heavy car with 500BHP I think this is not bad at all.

This is my 62 or 63 car, I have now had it over six months, that shows how much I like it. I was surprised by how comfortable the car is, it has the upgraded seats, perhaps that helps. It is not far off being as comfortable as The VW Phaeton I had prior to the Merc.

My son told me about this forum and how informative it was, this is true, we also have out fair share of comics, some funnier than others.
I was made to feel welcome from day one, and the comments and advice prior to me buying this car were as helpful as they were informative.

I again say thank you to all members for your interest.

Woody.

Don't think I'd be too thrilled with a car that was 'like new' yet required the dealer to have 'a lot of the front of the car in pieces' within 3000 miles.

On the V12 this is required to get to the AC compressor, it was after all six years old. like a lot of cars with low miles the Air con suffers, it needs to run, the refrigerant contains a seal conditioner as well as lubricant. The tier one warranty is akin to a new car warranty. I hope in the next six months both coil packs, all four suspension rams on the ABC, the command system and sound system all pack up,they will then be replaced free of charge prior to the warranty expiring. Thank you for your interest.

well my s600 was a nightmare for the first 5k miles ive owned it, nothing has gone in 20k miles since.

Are there pictures of you car on here?

Yes,they were posted by my son (computers are new to me) If you enter Muthaducka into search it will take you to them...Advice on CL600...

Hi Sweetpea.
Thank you, likewise, I mean that. Through the pages of the forum you get a feeling of knowing some of its members, you also form a mental picture of them in your minds eye, like listening to someone on the radio, when you see them in person they are seldom like you thought. Years ago I used to speak to a lady once a week via the telephone, she had a voice like the one who advertises food for a well known supermarket, you know the one?...not just any ice cream but?/ I had dreams about this woman for years, I met her once at a function I attended,She had also formed a mental picture of me, we were a great disappointment to each other.

Hi Woody, Hope you have many more years and thousands more miles of trouble free motoring with your CL600. Even if you do start spending money on maintenance and upkeep, I would bet you would not begrudge that as soon as you get inside that special place called CL600, press that little button on the gear lever and press your foot on the pedal. Mel.

It's a stunning car owned by an amazingly down-to-earth guy.

Hope to see a lot more of it in the coming years.

Hi Mel.
I am of the old school, prevention is better than cure. All my cars have never wanted for anything and are serviced to spec. I must admit that this Merc is the oldest car I have bought in a long while.
Most of my cars have been large engined top of the range motors that have been well looked after, and lost a fortune on depreciation, I tend to purchase cars other people (sane people) keep away from. I look round the carparks and think...had one of those, and one of those. I have had most of the cars on my list, the one I want next is another expensive car,but I will have one, a Bentley, a true gentlemans carriage.

I've been told that I look like a cross between Elvis Presley and Clint Eastwood if that helps your minds eye. :D

Woody are you coming to our wee dinner on the 6th of march ?

Hi HB Steve.
You bet, I am thinking of booking a room, depending on weather explore more of the East coast.
See you both there.
Woody.

Great update.

You would be surprised at the amount of times I have had MB sellers try to pass off inoperable aircon as "just needing a regas" or "I don't use aircon so never turned it on" which, to me, is a load of nonsense and usually hiding something more costly. If it needs regas, then £50 and job done and no longer an issue.

Wishing you many miles of very happy and very swift motoring!
