Updating the sat nav in a 2008 W211

Thanks for all your replies guys. I think its the firmware needs upgrading but the dealer wants £199.00 and the car for 5 hours.
As I live in a village 12 miles away, it seems I'm not getting a courtesy car and, have to make my own way home and return.

Early on I suggested you do a search on my posts - you ever do that? Started for you below:

The only glimmer of hope is to do as I did - but it is very wearing, and you have to be VERY persistent! (It wasn't dissimilar to what I did as part of my working life - persuading people to do things they did not really want to do, in a timescale and at a cost they didn't want to meet!!!) Can't get round having to leave your car though. Most dealers are not too far from civilisation so maybe make a day of it and eat/shop?

Sorry Gollom, I completely forgot to do that.
I'm not into wasting time window shopping as I have a sick wife who I don't want to leave on her own for 5 hours. If it's so easy to update the firmware, why does it take this inordinately amount of time ? They didn't seems busy when I went to collect the disc.
I think I'll give it up as a bad job and have wasted £106.

If you check your current version installed and the version on your bought dvd's . You can then buy the version in between and install it , which should allow you to install your newly bought version. Even if you bought a copy disc off eBay for £10.

You could download and burn the firmware to a cd and then install it to the car, but it looks like all links have gone . I had it myself on disc ,think I binned it . ?

Agree, it is ridiculous. How one of the perceived leading marques in the world has such pants satnav systems is beyond me!! Use Wave on your phone I guess.

P.S. maybe put up the discs you have for sale on this forum. May be someone out there who could utilise them?

If the unit has never been updated before, then you may need a mid update disc as well (say 2012) that also had a firmware update on it (perhaps for full postcode, updated POI abilities, better traffic updates etc - even if you don;t want that)
Jumping from 2008 to 2017 plus is not always possible

But the main dealer should have known this.....

Contact Comand on Line via phone with your VIN and they should be able to advise and perhaps even help
Thanks fabes, I got in touch with Comand for the firmware update but its a bit expensive and a bit far away for me. My main dealer , I get the impression that they are not interested because of the age of the car (2008) and weren't very helpful. Looks like I spent £106 for nothing.

I get the impression that the left hand d oesnt know what the right is doing at the dealers. First they sell me a pack with two discs then, I'm told that's the wrong set. Then they replace them with a single disc and told to install it in my multichannel. This doesn't work either ! I've given up with them now. I'll will use Waze in future.
