Upgrading rear lights on facelift W164 ML?

I had to recode mine in the ML to enable LED lighting in the rear SAM. I seem to recall that one of the lights was on dim without the recoding - but I can't remember for sure. Mine was a MY2009 car and the SAM was OK for this.

So ended up going ahead, but with the German supplier as they confirmed I could order the Grand Edition versions which are even nicer looking on a Black version of the ML (they are slightly tinted with side leds) for the same price as I would pay for the standard - they also explicitly confirmed no recoding needed and totally plug and play (We shall see!)

So £359 incl fex fees and hopefully here early next week and will then confirm whether was as straightforward as implied!

Gutted that shop doesn't sell similar lights for my model. I'm also interested in upgrading, I hear tales of the 2010 rear Sam being different from a 2009 so not even sure what aftermarket ones would be suited for mine in regards to error or code free

And for the first ML of 2006, i have buy the same rear light OEM LED but she doesn't work ! Anyone can help me please

I've got a 2007 ml420 and on my rear sam coding I have the option on what light I'm using bulb or led

Is this the original SAM in the car ? (lots of MLs get new rear SAM when they get wet !!)

Doh, yes i had a new sam fitted last year
but doesn't star/das allow you to upgrade the (software)offline programming ?

Yup, but different revisions of the SAM actually have different hardware in them, so not all can do everything new, and when they designed the 164 SAM (in 2003!) they may not have included a way of disabling the lamp fail detection hardware.

In other words, only way is to try And I still don't know the answer if an original 07 SAM can be made to do LED
