The shed does it again. Exact symptoms of power loss as to my last failure of the inlet port shut off motor. I've had the modified seals fitted as well.

Sorry to hear that Steve - get it fixed for the 29th.

A210 tempting....I love them. John couldn't make 29th stuck in work sadly

Sorry to hear that Steve -keep us posted on the car.

you sure you are not expecting AMG thrust :)

Is the motor still under warranty?

These do have a habit of returning...

Its not at the dealer this time and been outwith the dealer for sometime.

I know crockers has gone through 4, I hope I do not follow in his footsteps. I've had a big chat with Ian Walker re that else needs done and doesn't need done to help prevent it, so will be passing this on to the specialist I use.

Hope this is the last time you need to fix this, at what mileage did it happen first time
and how many since.

I just recently had a little bit of servicing carried out and requested that the turbo seal was changed as a precautionary measure, 05 car 37k miles, independent said that their was
just a very very slight amount of oil, so fingers crossed.

Hopefully a good regular thrash will keep all ok, any other tips would be gratefully
received.

Had it fail at 47k miles and again at 81k miles. 18 months between failures.

The issue can be the manifolds blocking and then drawing crud into the engine, and this crud blocking the motor.

Its given a good seeing to from time to time.

whoever does it needs to take the inlet manifolds off and take some time to clean around the butterflies and completely free all the flaps off... otherwise you will be forever changing motors until the day you need to change the manifolds too.

I recommend you run some injector cleaner through with every other tank... it really does work.

Its at this well known Indie

Mercedes Car Specialists

I've asked that the manifolds be removed and cleaned (they are left in an acidic IIRC) solution for a few hours after getting a good cleaning.

I believe they'll do this "manifolds off and take some time to clean around the butterflies and completely free all the flaps off" as to try and prevent it happening again

It happened 30odd k ago, why again, I don't believe MB Glasgow changed the manfolds, just changed a seal from the Turbo to prevent further oil leaking onto the motor.

I'm sure johnsco would be able to offer 5L cans of this at a very reasonable price.

Hope you get it sorted, what ever the issue might be.

I only saw him 3 weeks back, shoulda nabbed some then....

It'll be that V6 CDi issue, bloody shut off motor thing.

I can't wait to be back in the car and driving it again...:thumb:

Wow Steve - you're not having much luck with this car. Sorry to hear about the latest issue, I hope you can get it sorted out quickly and without too much damage to the wallet!

The more I read about these diesel engines, the more convinced I become that I'll going back to a petrol vehicle next time I change my car.

I text Steven earlier as we've always discussed the merits of the 500 option for me.

I reckon to get back the cost benefits of the fuel savings I've made with this car + the cost of the repair, thats 4k miles I will have to drive trouble free before the diesel car works out cheaper than what I would have otherwise bought, the E500. You've then got to add in the enjoyment factor of a 200cc/250cc larger engine in a V8 petrol over aa V6 diesel...

4k miles for me is 2 -3 months....unless my driving pattern changes, 1 of these failures/yr would work out cheaper

I recall Crockers car went through 4 of these motors, hopefully by getting the manifolds cleaned etc this will be the last one, but if not, and this is a regular failure (i.e. more than once a year 25k miles), an E500 would be its replacement all things being equal (and if I can afford to stump up the cash again for another car - a new car not being on my list of priorities)

Perform the EGR delete mod to stop the manifold filling with crap....or buy an E300TD and run it forever.
