V6CDi loss of power

Turns out a clip has broken at the bottom if the inlet port motor. They've tested it and it works fine. Car getting fixed and I'll be back in shed on Thursday. Damned Christmas getting in the way of me and my shed

Hi, could be facing the same issue... what are the symptoms? Is it loss of power on the entire rev range?

It would be. very common problem on the V6. It's normally the motor, rather than the clip though.

Part not expensive, but a pig to get at so labour is more.

Mine are below 2000 where the torque just seems to have gone.... feels a lot like an EGR valve issue I had on my old Astra....

It probably is an EGR valve issue again, they are junk. Does it run OK for a few minutes then start playing up, or bad from the word go?

Runs bad after a while.... car has just had the lambda sensor replaced... Does the V6 have an EGR valve? Or is this the 'back pressor sensor' or 'intake shut off valve'??

Limp home can be caused by any failing, you really do need the codes read. Yes, the V6 does have an EGR valve.

Have not had any limp modes but just know that something is wrong...

Last time it was plugged in to STAR was last saturday and had the 'back pressure sensor, lambda sensor and inlet shut off motor' all as errors. However after resetting, Lambda sensor showed up which they repaired which solved all of the 'juddering' and 'misfiring'... however car still feels rough and not much torque below 2000rpm. It feels alot like the EGR issue on my old Astra 1.9CDTi however no huge amount of black smoke like the Astra....

They've tested the motor and say its the clip...

I have to say I'm skeptical. I've asked the manifolds be cleaned but the irony of me having gunked up manifolds I don't swallow, its given a lot of stick.

Can the egr on a v6 be cleaned?

I just recently had a little bit of servicing carried out and requested that the turbo seal was changed as a precautionary measure, 05 car 37k miles, independent said that their was
just a very very slight amount of oil, so fingers crossed.
.

Is this a big job ? We've got an oil leak on ours.

I loved the smoothness and power of the V6 Diesel i had (2007 E320 Cdi), but the more I hear about the crap design which is otherwise known as the "inlet Port shut off motor" then the more pleased I am that I no longer own it...
Its a damned shame really but I think its a design fault thats inherrant with this particular V6 Diesel.

No engine is "perfect". Its one of the only real poor design features of that engine and that its the electronic motor really isn't up to the job....

In the oldy days aftermarket parts would fix it...

Remember, your car uses high pressure common rail injection and black death is something, that can, and does happen in 270cdi's and the injectors can be a PITA.

I know you look after your car, and good injector cleaner and regular service will see it in good stead, and its a lesson to all diesel drivers, service them regularly and run them with millers diesel eco max or a dose of Forte.

Other than the occasional injector fault 270CDi rarely seem to suffer with anything due to using vacuum EGR valve and no inlet port flaps.

The older sludge burners really are the best though... ;)

Hi amokwa, i was having the air filters and fuel filter changed so asked for the
seal to be changed at the same time.

The work did not take too long and i think (receipt not with me at the mo) total cost was about £180. Another small seal was also changed, airfilter box somewhere?? but this was not expensive.

Car was running well beforehand, and if the fuel computer can be believed
it has just returned 46 from london to north yorks (might have a rear qtr tailwind, no idea) which is an improvement
over the usual 42. All driving resonably brisk though anticipating well ahead.

Which 270 Cdi without inlet port flaps is that DM?
Simon's will have them.

yes but my flaps arent downwind of the turbo !!:D
So my leaky turbo seal isnt a problem...

I did here that the odd V6 knackers crank bearings as well (or was it little ends, I cant remember).

As I said its a beautifully smooth enging that for once its true to say doesnt feel like a Diesel....
But that fault with them in my books just ISNT acceptable on an expensive modern car!

I'm now back in the shed. The clip has been replaced and she seems fine. I'm hopeful this will be the end of her woes

I remember thinking that a few times about the money-pit. Sady there were always more woes to come!

£560 for coolant, major service and labour to get at the inlet port to change the clip. There is some minor play in a ball joint but I'll leave that for its next service
