Very seriously thinking of buying a 2012 SLK 55amg

That's where the real fun starts :D

You obviously know ! Am just trying to get used to it without frightening myself to death, rather a long time since I had an XJRV8 and I guess my reactions are a bit slower than when I was 50 ! Not that that is going to stop me enjoying it

I bet the OP missed the Severn bridge tolls on his return from collection.

I've been driving a Biturbo E63 as my daily transport for the last 5 years, and the performance can still be classed as, err, "exciting". You always have to treat these cars with respect.

The normally aspirated version of the engine in the SLK55 pulls pretty hard at lower rev's but it becomes significantly quicker as the tacho needle gets closer to the red line. And the sound with the roof down is hilarious - it sounds like a WWII fighter 'plane :D

Phil, Thanks for the information regarding what happens at revs in the SLK. As you say these cars need to be treated with respect and it is a few years since I had my last V8 so I am being sensible as well as thinking of my clean licence. I am looking forwards to a long relationship with this car!

To be fair, I do rarely go above 5000rpm. So difficult to find the opportunities to put that power down safely. So the fleeting moments when you do just feels that much more special.

It's nice when you come through a narrow exit of a 20mph viaduct and are faced with a straight clear dry uphill stretch and then you can feel confident to boot it. Uphill straights are always the best

I've had the resonator removed from mine. I was hoping for a silky rumble and was a little disappointed but your description is spot on - it is an aggressive bark.

Out again today with the top down , have discovered an amazing fact. Over the last 12 months with my ML I never ever saw a radar trap, in over 6000 miles of motoring. During the last two days out with the top down I have driven through three mobile traps , two vans and a police motorcyclist holding a gun ( within the limit on each occasion ) Either I have been blind for the last year or this new car attracts them.

Good thing about having the top down you can wave as you go past, did that twice to our local neighbourhood speedwatch, the parish council chairman pointed the gun at me whilst I was doing 22mph, I slowed up and waved as I passed, wish I could have taken a picture of his red face..

Well just had the car serviced ( A ) and Mot' which should have been done before collection, cost covered by the dealer I bought it from as it was within 90 days of its annual service date.
All ok, even better i took out a 3 year service contract today for just over £43 PM. Will cover B, A, B service, next one will include 16 spark plugs and the last a gearbox service, am highly delighted !
