Village car meet

Is the owner very heavily tattooed?

Not a tattoo on him. He also owns the blue 69 Mustang and the red Boatail Speedster that was there last month and the Wheeler Dealers red Corvette C2. His name is Kevin. Nice pics of my SLS Dieselman

I thought you were going to turn up last night...a brace of SLS would have nicely matched the SL55's.

The last incident at Ashby Folville was a biker pulling a wheely when leaving, came off.

The Police said... No More. Hence the Manor is a bike free meet.

It was a good night last night, very social.

For a bit of fun, I got the Girl in the Austin Seven to start it by hand, which she achieved and was pleased by doing it and the last words I heard from the Mini crew was a fellow saying to his Wife...C'mon, I want you in the back of my pickup, now...!!??

I would have done if I had a car! AMG taking a bit longer with my SLS than planned, and the ML is with Gemclean to get the bodywork better than new. So I'm rocking around in a rented Corsa - a proper reality smack in the teeth!

I'll aim for next month...it's the first Tuesday isn't it?

Some are pretty ropey now, I'm driving mine back from a full gearbox rebuild and front disc and drive shaft replacement in Holland now (well, at a hotel for the night) and after a full engine upgrade (modern ECU, sensors, injectors and bespoke map) and suspension overhaul frankly it is now stunning. If you are ever nearby, always happy to show it off - it is genuinely a great car.

Yes, I meant yo a while ago but then I left it too long and didn't like to ask....I actually thought you'd sold it for some reason. Would love a ride out in one so will be in touch soon :thumb:

Well, the beast is back in the UK after a splendid drive. On unhurried motorway she looks to be capable of 30mpg, but in the twisties that Maserati V6 can't half sing when encouraged.

Pop by when you've picked up the SLS - I'm just off the M40/M25/M4 junctions so will be on your way home!

Does it drive noticeably differently with the new engine management?

Hugely DM, torque is much improved, as is peak power, economy well over twice as good in un-hurried fashion, no whack of liquid soot on start-up, no over-fuelling, starts hot and cold reliably, and sound track is reflective on an engine in full tune. Doing this, the solid state dizzy and the ht leads has changed the car into what it should be, an immense grand tourer which can really sing and not eat you alive on fuel.

Knowing what I do now, if I got another Citroen of like vintage I'd ship it straight over to Renard to have them do the works. They are reasonable, immensely knowledgable and in every thing they've done leagues ahead of the UK specialists I've used. Car now rides, handles properly and brakes properly. Picking it up yesterday he had 7 SMs in - plus an SM engined lwb DS built in Spain for a Dutch footballer. Total monstrosity that he hates with a passion, but will sort it out. Also an early 70s BMW CSi coupe he is converting to his injection system, having stripped off the hideous D Jet!

Charles,

You keep tempting me... I feel half inclined to buy a carby SM and fit a modern injection kit to it.

Where is it please DM ?

The Manor House, Woodhouse Road, Quorn, LE12 8AL.

Classics and interesting park in the field, regulars in the station car-park.

I'm surprised they haven't encouraged CGR to put on steam, the tracks are literally the other side of the fence.

Buy an injection one, the carb ones are really rather lovely sounding and best left original. A D jet replaced though is a flat out improvement. You'll need CX injectors though, they are smaller than modern, a drilled flywheel for the CPS, and the right mix of dizzy (Rootselaar from Nard mimics the dual coil set up of the original) or coil packs with the right map for the irregular fire V6 and ECU - it's taken Nard 10 years of fiddling to get this right! Lots of open source help out there though!

Budget on also doing all the rest - solid valves and updated tensioners if not already done, full hydraulics, bodywork, air-con etc - frankly most on the market in need of at least £20k spent on them, even the expensive ones! Every time I see the words full Andrew Brodie engine upgrade my heart sinks - this is hardly even the start, and half the time the camshafts get put back incorrectly.

Many thanks DM. Just down the road from me. After seeing your photos I've got to go. Landlord of my local (Gate Hangs Well) always raved about Ashby Folville.
Wear a pink carnation and I'll say Hi !
