Visiting the Nürburgring

Here's further proof Ian : LOL!!!

Thats a great shot have you ordered the original? we have some great shots from some of the ring photographers and they are not that expensive but that is one I would definitely buy if it were me.

It never fails to amaze me that on that exit from the carousel sometimes at quite high speed all you can see is sky

Thanks again for sharing :thumb:

What a hoot Family corned had. Thanks for sharing. Now I wonder what my trusty old diesel sled on rails would be like round there. Hmmmmmmmmm. Thanks again for sharing, made my evening to hear the positive vibes coming through from the family.

...And thank you to you all too. It has made my evening to see what a positive response my posts have received.

I think it is obligatory that I should purchase the original of that photo! If I could have picked the area which I would have wished to be photographed, then the exit of Karussel would be it. That is the only photo I have found as yet. I would like to find one with the kids waving from the back though, but I am happy enough with that one.

The kids (boys, 11 and 8) are still full of it 3 days later.

The weekend was quite a contrast. We drove straight to Spa on the Friday (worth a separate thread almost!) where I was truly amazed at how much height difference there is. I was most interested in the old course (did a couple of 'laps'), and I couldn't believe how far the drop from the original Les Combes down to the original Stavelot is. And how steep the climb is up to Les Combes from Raidillon/Kemmel. The TV coverage doesn't do it the slightest justice!

Saturday was Cemetery Day, and that was covered well enough in a separate thread so I won't linger here. Suffice to say that it was a tough day. Sunday and the 'Ring was the prefect antidote to the tough Saturday, and the highlight of the trip. I have to say that the Ardennes is an absolutely beautiful part of the world, and a very pleasant surprise as to just how beautiful. We shall be going back, hopefully soon.

Thanks again for all your kind comments. The pleasure was all ours, I assure you!

Excellent! :) Exiting the Karussell is one of the best iconic locations for the Nürburgring memento. :thumb:

Now the proud owner of a lovely 4288 x 2848 original!

Thanks to a chap called Jörg Jakowski who took the snap. That's his website in the watermark on the version I posted.

Have to tell the missus to keep the camera down a bit next time though...

OK, here goes. Don't pay too much attention to my idiotic commentary, but there are one or two interesting moments out there if you look closely.

Video here.

So - 12.34 as timed on the film, but 12.24 between the two bridges. I am quite pleased with that!

One thing I haven't yet mentioned was the car's brakes. I would have expected 2 tonnes plus, around a racing circuit like this, on standard brakes, to have induced some significant fade in the brakes before the lap ended. But I was amazed at how well they performed on each occasion.

The wheels were absolutely black at the end, though! :)

Finally found the Video.

Well done Keef. :thumb:
