vito 639 seats

The bar is flat steel 10mm thick 30mm wide 300mm long x3 and for the single hole I used 150mm long x 3.
Just add one more pair if you want that rail under the twin seat.
Between the 3 holes you drill in the floor, marked through the factory seat rails, cut a hole with a jigsaw 31mm x 60mm.
The bar needs drilling and tapping 10mm two in the long bar and one in the short.

These will go in the hole cut and slide along the rails into position.
I used two magnets and a bent welding rod through the bolt hole to guide into position.
When you know it fits take it out and clean the bars.
Then apply polyester sealant along the top of the bars and slide back in, this time bolt them up with the factory bolts and leave to dry.
Make sure you clean up the filings in the rails with a vac and then apply cavity wax with a tube on the can to get right along the rails.
Then close the hole cut with gaffer tape.
Then you can take the bolts out and the bars stay put.
Needs a good few hours to dry.
Put the ply, or mat back and fit the factory floor rails.
Job done.

I have a vito dualiner and want to install a 3rd row of seats. If I follow the above instructions, are there any marking on the floor where i should drill the holes for the 3rd row? I ideally want to make the van into a traveliner set up in the back.

Out of curiousity can you purchase the vito seat rails system i.e. the 4 long track with quick release bolts so you can have full flexibility for the rear seating?

Thanks

Tenny

I don't think you will see any marks but the only way is take the matt out and look.
There in the floor rails so you cannot go far wrong.

You can buy the long rails yes, keep an eye on ebay.

You cannot go far wrong as they fit in the channels in the floor, you need to strip out the rear floor and you will see.

I swapped the floor in the rear of my van when i put in a second line of seats in my van & when or if you get the cushion floor, you will see all the mounting points for the seats and everything else marked out underneath!! So you just have to cut em out & mark your brackets that way!! Hope that helps

i finally picked up 4 rails but they are all long ones around 6ft or so. Arent the 2 middles ones supposed to shorter for a lwb van? anyone know the length all the rails should be?

I have three rails for the rear seats in my LWB Vito dualiner and they are 670mm long.

.Sorry just read you wanted to convert to a traveliner....mine is just for a row of seats behind the driver.

I bought 4 long rails which are the ones that you can move the seat in 25mm increments, but they are all the same size of 2170mm long, but the 2 middle rails are usually smaller but not sure how much smaller. does anyone know?

Just replied to this on another thread. The centre double rails are 310mm shorter than the single outer

There are no holes in the floor of a van, the floor is un drilled and no cage nuts.
The channels are there so spacing is no problem you cannot go wrong there and they are inline with the side door step.

I can supply what you need to fit them.
hi zenman ,i am new to this site and need some help/advice from you concerning adding vito rear seats,i have read your post concerning this but am confused at what is polyester sealant and cavity wax, also cannot access any of your pics relating to this, please can you advise me does this polyester sealant give a strong bond to the flat metal or is it just for positioning the flat bar, thanking you fivriver

Polyester is an adhesive to bond the bars in place.
Cavity wax is just that, like waxoil rust prevention.
A good magnet will help locate the bars.
Not sure where the pictures are?

Hi zenman, this is my first post on this board but I've been reading about your mods with great interest (and more than a little envy!).

So far all I've done is replace my original stereo with the new Audio 20 (with bluetooth). This has been a great success and represents a vast improvement.

My vehicle is a 639 dualiner and I want to add a second row of rear seats, effectively making a traveliner. I read your 'how to' and obtained all the parts including the 10mm x 30mm flat bar and polyester sealant. Having marked out the location of the seat rails I carefully drilled an exploratory hole only to find that I'd drilled it slap bang in the centre of a factory fitted threaded mounting beneath the floor. Result! Using the rails as templates I've now found all the mounting points.

From here on fitting the rails and seats will be simple, but I'm aware that when they are fitted I will need to get the vehicle's data card updated. Where can I go to get this done and what exactly do I need to get updated? Am I looking to change the codes to those of a traveliner? Does anyone on here know what they should be? I am a bit nervous about walking into a main dealer without any real idea of what I want them to do for me. I don't want to unecessarily raise any suspicions about the extra seats, especially since the whole job will have been carried out with MB parts right down to the bolts and fixings in the floor. Can the data card be updated by an independent specialist and if so, might they be more receptive to my request?

Nice one with the blind nuts in the floor pan.
Data card is done at MB parts no problem, what you need is the codes.
Give me a list of what you have added and I will sort the codes for you.
Richard at Comand on line can also do it, give them a call and ask, if you pay them I cannot see any problems.

Thanks zenman, that is really helpful.

Additions already done, currently underway or imminent:

Audio 20 unit
Removable trailer coupling
Manual rear vent windows (heat absobing black)
Single co-drivers seat (with replacement boxes both sides for individual seats)
Standard three seater rear bench (third row of seating)
Grab handles to rear roof rail for additional seating

All a bit mundane really!

My data card currently includes the code Z41 APPROVAL AS TRUCK (as on would expect for a dualiner). Should this be passenger car for a traveliner?

Thanks again for your help.

Officially they are not commercial vehicles as the customs and excise wont let you reclaim the VAT. Same with the Traveliner and the Viano.

Yet for road tax the Dualiner is classed as a Light Goods Vehicle!

Only the Viano is classed as a car and no vat as a used car.
£460 road tax for mine.
Like I say give the guys at Comand on line a call for the data card.
Do you have the hi line cluster?

Yes I have the hi line cluster. I will get in touch with Comand on line as you suggest, once I have a bit more of an idea which codes I need added/changed.

Thanks for the help so far.

Richard will sort all that for you, it will need coding for the cluster to work the radio unless it does that already.
You should get phone address book in the cluster and tracks from the Audio 20 displayed.

The coding for the cluster/radio has been done and it works a treat now, but it took the MB dealership a lot of head scratching and several days to make it work. Hence my reticence to go back to them for the data card update.

Thanks again for the help and advice.
