vito 639 seats

Thanks Guys you have all been a great help, just one last question what grade of steel do you recommend for the flat steel bar that is used to replace the missing bolts?

See below for dimensions of steel required , I had mine galvanised for extra rust protection

Hi Nick, What steel grade did you use to make the bars from?

Did you fit the seats yourself if so did you get them certified by anyone for the insurance?

Not quite got that far yet , the rails are in, but thats it so far. Plenty of work to do, just no time to do it atm , plus off work currently with a broken /fractured rib and internal bruising .

I think it was just standard grade steel , as it has not got to be ridiculously strong, just to spread the load over the floor pan .

Sorry to here that mate.

Just go to a steel stockiest and ask for steel bar of the size I gave on here.
You just need to update the data card when its done and you will have no problems insuring as it as stock on the Mercedes data.

Cheers mate, wouldnt have minded if it was my fault, but i was a mere passenger in the works van when the driver decided to go to sleep . Only problem was we were doing 90 on the M5 and we crashed into a LWB transit .

Best bit of it is, i got an email yesterday asking me to attend a disciplinary hearing charged with gross misconduct/gross negligence , which has come about due to the company policy that apparently the senior person in the vehicle must be responsible for and drive the vehicle at all times. Several of the others have also been summonsed for speeding in the works van . We will see what comes of it next week .

Nick, thanks for the comments sorry to hear about your accident hope you get well soon and hope you sort out the job side as well.

Zenman, thanks how do I get the data card updated?

Hi MB people, i have a question regarding installing vanio seats into a land rover defender van.

I live in New Zealand and own a few Land rovers, one of which is a long wheel base van based type defender, ( 1994 110 hard top defender 300 tdi - in landy rover terms)

https://raywongu.wordpress.com/1994-defender-110-hard-topb300-tdi/

The plan is to add some seating for the rear and some vanio seats became available locally at $100 nzd per seat, i was going to bolt some ford transit van ones in but they just sit a little too high,

Mercedes Viano and V230 Seats | Trade Me

If i purchase these seat is it a matter of just bolting the runners straight onto the floor of my defender?

With spreader plates underneath

Would there be anything else to consider

I like the Vanio seats as they sit lower in the rear of the tub / back park of land rover compared to the transit options so giving more protection in case of rollover in a bad off roading situation.
Sitting lower down is preferable also as my kids are less likely to fall out i remove the roof and just have a roll cage

And I beleive i could remove and have the truck available for carrying stuff around.

I appreciate any answers or information.

Thanks

Ray

Thinking of doing same in our Vito 109compact panel van. Going to fit side windows in sliding doors. And going to look for rear single seat or double comfort bench to fit.

Can I fit this seat using same method with steel bar under ???

Also can any one tell me how much this seat is worth ?
Its genuine Viano full leather Comfort Seat in mint condition.

The seats will fit the same rails as the vito yes.
The Viano seat is worth £400

So have a bargain Then !!!!!

Going to fit side windows and this seat what do i need to upgrade.

Also do i need to tel this mods to insurance ????

I suppose that you should have to report the mod after all it would be a very easy one to get caught out on should your vehicle be inspected by an insurance company, giving them an opportunity not to cough up.

Check your insurance company will still cover a modified van (some won't).

You definitely need to declare the windows and additional seats (this increases the potential for injury payout by having more people in the vehicle). From memory you have to tell the DVLA too.

Hi nice illustration of the steel which I can bring to my fabricater, I can see what the double hole bars for but what way do the single hole ones go ? I hope to Put a second row of seats in my Vito in the next month or so and would really love to see some pictures !!?

The bars with the single hole are for the rear of the seat as the rails have 3 holes in them and by sliding one forwards of your cut hole and one backwards you will get to all three mounts .

How much should I expect to pay for a 2+1 comfort seat in reasonable condition and a cushion floor? Thanks in advance
