Vito Sports X tyre wear.....

On the 639 Vito generally the front tyres wear the outside edge pretty rapidly, nearside quicker than offside (I guess due to road camber and roundabouts). Is this what you mean?

13k on a 200bhp V6 diesel front wheel drive van with 18 inch wheels sounds about right to me :)

Erm ... it's rear wheel drive ;)

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback, its exactly what i mean....just surprised they the NSF wears so quickly! oh well better start saving up for the new ones!

Thanks again, Pete

oh , i thought it was the same as the V class which i was sure was FWD.

Yes, the old shape Vito (W638) / V Class was FWD. But the new shape (W639) Vito / Viano is RWD ... a completely different vehicle really.

Hi Bill,

Have you added any nice little extras to your dualiner?

I always thought it would be useful to have a sort of compartment between the two front captains seats? Its a real shame Merc never added a second arm rest to the seats either!

They often look worse than they are - mine have done 27k miles (these are the Continentals that came on my 17" alloys, which are probably a harder compound), but are still legal as the minimum tread depth only applies across 3/4 of the tyre width. It passed the MOT in September but I will be replacing them shortly (before the winter really sets in).

Swapping the wheels front to back also helps prolong the life. But the real answer is not to corner so fast :o

Incidentally, the cheapest I can find the Continental Vanco 17" tyres for mine is £148 (from event tyres), which is more expensive than your 18s!

Ours is a standard Dualiner Comfort - we didn't get the Sport X because we wanted 3 seats in the front (Mrs + one of the kids).

Options & extras are listed here:

Hi Bill, do you find the conti's noisy and have you considered an alternative?
My wheels are the 16inch Merc alloys with 225 60 16 102 h.
Your input would be greatly welcomed as well Chris.
Sorry if i've hyjacked the thread Weybridge.

Don't find the Contis too bad for noise, generally pretty happy with the grip/handling/life.

Might have a look at Michelin though because Costco are doing 20% off them this month.

Thanks Bill, I'm looking at putting some 18inch Mercedes alloys on in the spring, insurance company allowing, and keeping the 16inch for the winter.

My 120 seems noisy, i thought it was tyres as the noise does change on different road surfaces but never goes away.

Is anyone experiencing excessive tyre wear on their vito sports x........

Rear tyres are absolutely fine but fronts are way down and NSF is almost bald after only 13K miles? http://www.MBClub.co.uk/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif

I'd be very interested to get feedback.....

Tyres quoted at approx £138 from Merc

Thanks

The Vito has some real geometric issues.....

The very narrow tyres -V- "Ackerman angle" and camber. Well that all reads "WTF".

In the real world the Vito working vehicle has commercial tyres and a very generous steering lock, this lock rolls the very narrow NSF tyre outside of the vertical within a very small radius, this radius concentrates wear on the outside edge.

You have two realistic options to dissolve the complaint.
1: Fit/ or adjust "lock stops".
2: Move the NSF camber position so more of the tyre shares the vehicle's weight during the turn.

from a delaers point veiw we have had more issues with 17in alloys on Vito Sports 150 and 204 and on other vans specd with the 17in rims (like BTB500)
if van is brought from new and the wear is caught early enough some times you can get a geomatry check under warranty (if your lucky)

Not many complaints on the 19s on the Sport X

But if you put a any vito on full lock they lean quite heavly so if you do a lot of lock to lock manouving this wont help the wear either.
