Just looking into another project for the vito.
Retro fitting THERMOTRONIC luxury climate control.

On the EPC all I can see is a new cover and a different control.
Anyone done this?
Will it need coding?

Ok seems it's not been done, that's fine.
Got the parts list, looking at £450 so I will order soon and see how we go.
In other Mercedes when you change to digital control do you have any wiring or plug housing's to change and did they need coding, or is it just a digital control and thats it?

When I did my 203 it was a straight swap. You don't get anything extra, just a better (IMHO) looking display. The flaps need syncing and that's best done using STAR

Keep us posted Zenman, as i am seriously interested in doing this to mine aswell . Damn it i have caught the vito modding bug LoL

Yep i have to agree with sparkydude, keep us up to date with what you do.

Can i just ask zenman, what are the 19' wheels you have got on your van??

The wheels are AMG triple spoke.

Found one on ebay.de today!
Looking forward to this now as I have been looking for weeks for one.
I could do with wiring digram to see if the pin out's are the same.
I am down at Comand on line Tuesday for lot's of coding and will ask them as it will not arrive in time for that.

Good luck with this - let us know how it goes!

It always annoyed me that Thermotronic cost the full £1700 (back in 2007) on a 120, even though that had normal aircon as standard (a £940 option on other models).

They should have just charged the difference (£760) to upgrade a 120 to Thermotronic.

Will do Bill, I have had a good look at the EPC today and cannot find anything more than this control, is is expandable to the rear aircon but for a duel liner it seem's thats all I need, time will tell.
I am just hoping the pin out's are the same.

Well it turned up today and there are some small changes to make.
There is a mechanical control on my old dash and the new one needs a stepper motor.
Heater box is the same but there is a long electrical plug with big wires, this must go to the stepper, epc show's 2 steppers and a harness.
I need a vin number from a vito with thermotronic fitted to cross ref.

Ok have a vin number but is very new and lost of differences.
I need a 2006 vin number before I give up and send it back.
Looks like a different heater so if it is then is going back.

Ok different heater and harness.
Don't think I will bother as its a huge job.

Bill in researching this I have found they do take the difference out now, in a 122 anyway.

It does seem to be a different heater and I am looking for one now, I did think about sending it back but thats just giving up!

Well I have spent hours cross ref epc with my fitted heater and a vito I have found same year with the Thermotronic fitted.

As long as the epc is right then I need upper and lower housing, a harness and one stepper motor.
Everything other than this cross refs the same.
Bad enough but I will see what the parts cost and come back.

Ok lower housing £47 upper air distribution £72 and a harness £34 plus the missing stepper motor £40.
I will just buy a second hand hand heater the same as mine to build up one first with the new parts.

Small bit of progress.
The dash had some damage to the soft touch and I wanted it polished black anyway, so the first job strip it down, all easy enough, then remove that rubber coating, it's on ABS so had to use something safe on that, Brake fluid did the job, it take's some time, over night in a bucket full, then a rub with a scotch bright and it was off.
Then plastic adhesive, then 4 coats of 2k primer, wet flat then it went black, very hard to get in every where so had some dry paint, so wet flat again and another 3 coats of black, then when dry flat again with 2500 and polish, I need to do a bit more polishing but decided to build it back up first to save damaging it.

Switch covers I left of having taken them apart to remove the heated rear window and wiper as I don't want them.
I will use my blanks from my fitted dash.

I also have a heater coming and have ordered the parts to build one up with a harness.

Looks like I have hit a brick wall, cannot get the heater harness, never sold one in the uk and cannot get one?
Part number A000 820 05 06, not even sure I need it but not sure where to go with it now.
every thing but this.
I have had it in today and it all works and fits ok, all the plugs are the same and seems to work most things.

I think I need both wiring diagrams, anyone with wis and I will pay for both.

I have some progress on this, MB have made a harness, it was missing on epc!
I also have both wiring Dig's, most is the same, No resister pack, it's replaced with a control module, 1 extra stepper motor, different pollen filter for some reason, a sun sensor in the dash above the cluster, wires back to the control module.
I now have all the bits, so next job, dash out!
I will post pictures as it goes.

Nice one Ian , How much was the wiring harness from MB then and the extra bits and bobs you have had to get apart from the digital dash itself then ?? Will the wiring harness now have a part number and appear on WIS you reckon ?

One day i will follow your footsteps LoL but at the moment i am too busy at work before i go on my hols LoL.
