W/S212 front spring question.

Strut nut is 21mm socket T50 torx
Same setup as my B Class. I used a 21mm spark plug socket which had a hex at the top that could be held with a spanner. The T50 needs a shaft long enough to pass through the socket and into the damper rod. Standard spring compressors did the job.

This is strange the e63 was in for mot today and has failed on a broken or fractured front spring.

As this is a spring thread. Apparently The spring doesn't come separately, it comes with a shock absorber.

Can anyone confirm this is the case or can the spring be bought separately and replaced like other w212 models?

I just picked a model year at random, but it doesn't appear to be the case

According to this guy's video, the springs can be changed separately.

I've found some springs for the 63 now.

Anyone fancy a day of swapping springs over on two 212 vehicles be a good drink in it for you 🤣🤣.

MB want £373.00 for one item. But the guy rekons it comes with a shock absorber. I can't see it being that case at that price. That must be for the spring only?

Right I believe I have found springs to fit the 212 e63 on autodoc Suplex coil spring £144.00 per unit.

When on lllparts the spring that was suitable for the e63 was part number A2123212704. Now like the MB guy said it says coil spring with absorber. But the part only shows the spring at £371.00 per unit.

Suplex seem to have a good reputation.
Also recommends replacing the lower spring seal.

I'm a bit of a dilemma as work has been quieter than ever the last 3 months and I normally always go for the better branded parts. And I want to get the s212 250 sorted first. But the mot only last up to 11 days I think before it goes in again with failures rectified without the mot cost again.

I've also thought of removing the strut assembly and having a garage remove and install the new springs. I can't decide, it doesn't actually seem that difficult to unbuild and rebuild an w212 coil spring. 🙄🙄

Put on OE style Bilsteins, springs and mounts. Make sure the sway bar links are tight. The front trailing arms are shot at that mileage too. The camber arms are usually looking good but might be soft. Mercedes designed it well. Its not going to handle like a BMW, but you won't go flying off the road at the original ride height. The AMG kit is already 15mm lower than comfort. Lower than that is asking for underbody damage. Some folks love the O6 Bilsteins on stock springs. Firmer damping. A must with lower than low springs. O8 even smarter, but why get a Mercedes if you want a truck like feel? I would recommend Meyle HD or LEMFÖRDER or OEM if you're quite wealthy. Then start on the rear. My 2012 E250 CDI AMG kit S212 is kept in like new condition. It actually is better driving than new. Somehow, the original rear subframe was misaligned. The replacement on corrosion warranty fixed everything back there. So, there is opinion #60 for you. As far as the front end, there is nothing you can't do in your driveway if you have the basic Mercedes necessary tools. It's quit simple.

Coil spring compressor kit ordered, 21mm laser spanner, bench vice, and other bits and pieces. Just need to springs to arrive now. I'm going for it. Will report back if need any advice.

Thanks for the pointers this far. 👍

144 pounds? OMG. My Bilsteins were 54 euro per and are very good. I had 245,000 kilometers when I did the front trailing arms and struts and springs. I didn't know how loose it had become. It changed everything. I have the camber arms and ball joints. I'm just waiting for the motivation.

Yeah, I shouldn't bat an eye at the price. The front shocks springs and top mounts are the only non-OEM parts I have ever put on the car. Even for that, the dampers, seats and shock bellows are OEM and terribly expensive. But I love that car. I bought it new and the dealer has had my business since I got it. I know it's ridiculously expensive, but I'm in southern Belgium and my faith in independent garages is close to zero. However expensive it is, they honor every warranty without question. They just did my valve cover for the second time in 18 months under warranty. That's about 6 hours of work and new clamps, bolts and seals for the injectors plus the cover gasket. No discussion. Good relationship.

£373 per spring is absolute frucking robbery. When I was trying to source genuine AMG springs for my car I was working in the USA , Mercedes Benz Modesto in California managed to find 2 springs (front) in the whole of the USA. Due to logistics and time limitations I declined to order them .

I then approached Eibach (UK) , they are the suppliers to MB AMG who directed me to Eibach Germany who refused to sell AMG springs to me.

Long story short , with help from MB of Newcastle upon Tyne (check out their Ebay shop) they managed to source 2 genuine Eibach MB AMG springs from Germany shown in post #69 for £215 (for both) incl VAT and delivered.

Note , this was for an 'oddball' car , C55's are oddball when looking for certain parts , in comparison (no offence) but buying springs for a boggo 2010 212 should be a piece of cake in comparison .

It's your money but IMHO someone is taking the mick trying to charge you that much for springs.

It's the MB main dealers that's charging that price. That's what they are for that E63 vehicle it seems across the board.
