W116 450 SEL Restoration Project

Good luck, as someone who has done this, badly, get lots of plastic bags and pots, and label absolutely everything, and take as many pics as you can.

I ended up with a box of bits and no ideas on my last W126, took ages to put it back together.

Lol, yes I did the same on a previous Maserati resto.

These classic Mercs just have so much more style and character than the modern cars. They deserve caring people to save them.

Which is why I am lusting after an 89 500 SEC, despite being 22 year old V8.....

Good man! I agree, I lust after them BECAUSE they are a 22 year old V8.

They are all money pits though in one way or another, who cares

That engine has to be thirstier than a marathon runner in the Sahara, but I would love it so.

My first MB was a W116 and i've wanted another ever since. Gorgeous cars.

I had a 116 years ago too , would like another to complement my 126 , but every one I've looked at has been a rust bucket .

Thought I'd update this thread as I haven't done so for a while.

The car is currently in the garage having new H & R lowering springs fitted which I bought from Germany, along with new Boge gas shocks all round. Fronts are done, just waiting for the rears now plus new PAGID rear discs to be fitted.

Also discovered a slight fuel leak where one of the rubber hoses connects to the fuel pump so that will be sorted too.

I will post some pictures up when it's back on the ground, looking forward to seeing the results especially with the 16" Penta's on :)

And one from the side. Sorry about the finger:doh:

I'm pleased with the look, I think it gives the car a much better stance and it handles really well too for a big barge :)
