w124 300e diesel

Back in the frame...going to look at another one tomorrow - mileage looks good - bodywork ok - except a chip out of the edge on the passenger door (i presume this will mean a whole new door - any idea of cost anyone??). Belongs to a builder (always seems to be this or antique dealers!!), and as such, I'm a bit concerned about the rear suspension/shock absorbers. Is there any way for me (a non-mechanic) to tell whether or not an expensive repair is likely?? Also - this one has air-con (which i don't care about). However, if the air-con goes wrong, does the whole heating system go wrong as well?? All advice gratefully received. Looking at it tomorrow. lol

Non original new doors are cheap, around 50-60 then prob another 100-150 to paint and fit depending on where you take it. Orig doors are about £150 iirc.
Air con has usually stopped working in a lot of 124's by now. It wont affect the heating. But if its not working, or he says 'it needs a top up' budget for a new a/c condenser which can be anything up tp £500, although dont need to change if youre not going to use a/c.
