MISTAKE IN THE TITLE: It's actually a Clifford alarm, sorry!

I hired a guy to install the alarm on my W124, but after he finished it, the central locking wasn't working, if you used the remote control.

It locks and unlocks fine using the original key on the door, but not with the remote. He said, because it's a vacuum system, I needed some additional device ("little black box") to make the remote central locking work.

The alarm and immobiliser work as they should - the car doesn't start, if the alarm is on, and the alarm kicks in, if it's locked and you open the door with the key. The only issue I'm having is the central locking.

Although on top of that, I've just discovered my fog lights don't come on, neither front or rear.

Now I'm feeling like he bullsh!ts me...or not?

Get someone who knows what they are doing AND most important knows about MERC W124'S. Normally an after market alarm just piggy-backs on to the remote locking circuits and uses their signals to arm disarm itself . The remote locking should work just fine. Sounds as if he has blown a few fuses/modules during the install!

Any idea about the fogs? So that could be the fuses?

Iirc, they are located under the bonnet, small black box on the top left corner?

Yes,the box with the clip.Looks like that guy does not now much about fitting alarms

Could be fuses [ blown or need their contacts cleaning] or he has possibly blown the exterior lamp failure monitoring unit which is located in the relay compartment behind the fuse box mentioned above or you have a faulty light switch which you didn't notice before?

The light switch shouldn't be a problem, because the fogs were working before the guy installed the alarm.

I'll check the fuses and the relay as well. Is there any number for the relay or anything to know which one is the exterior lamp failure unit?

I know I can check the fuses by looking at the note on the box cover.

In my limited experience fitting aftermarket alarms to W124s is complex and potentially very troublesome. The people who tried to do ours eventually gave up and reset everything back to factory spec without the alarm.

I've seen over the years some really shoddy workmanship when it comes to alarm installation.

Unfortunately the old saying is correct "you pay for what you get".
