Managed to reverse into a hedge :o today and snapped my aerial off .....

Anyone got any idea of the price of a new one, and how fiddley is it to fit ?

Can't believe i did it TBH ......felt like a right prat ..... at least there is no bodywork damage .....

they are made by hirschmann

have a little number on the top,

go to dealers and get another one about 17 pounds, you will need mast only

all instructions on the box.

you may need a helper otherise you will have to run round the car to turn rad on and off when feeding in the plastic cable

it will all become apparent when you DIY,

ps very easy to do

had me going there for a minute, thought you had written it off or something...

about £30 from euro car parts and thats the oem beru or hirschmann one

edit - you can buy just the masts but for the price you may aswell get a new unit..

A new mast for my R129 was about £18 IIRC, and the (main) dealer fitted it FOC while it was in for a service. So I would guess it's a pretty simple job.

Somewhere around that price H - as long as it's an original one! Mine was nearer £30 though from memory.

Easy to fit, as said - you feed the old one out and the new one back in again by manipulating the aerial up/down.

Glad to hear that's all was damaged ;)

Cheers gang !

Will get it sorted this weekend , will probably get a whole new unit as this one has been making grumbling noises recently anyway .... and sometimes refuses to come up ....

Could be a blessing in disguise .....

New antenna complete is around £100 from memory (genuine MB Hirschmann unit).

A friend of mine has a 190E with a slightly 'grumbly' aerial - works fine and has done for 3+ years, he's just got used to it.. ;)

Huh ?

Thats some price difference ...... £30 or £100 .....

Does anyone have correct pricing info ?

ECP are showing £46, but have no stock .....

EDIT :- GSF have one (Hirshmann) for £32.50 + Vat ..... cool !

£17-30 for the mast on it's own (depends on type I assume)

£100 or there abouts for the entire aerial/motor/gears etc

HTH :)

M89250 AERIAL-AUTOMATIC General Use. All Models (HIRSCHMAN FITMENT) £32.50

Is that from MB Howard or ECP/GSF etc ?

My aerial was grumbly and didn't come up every time .. it only needed a new mast, and the £18 was a main dealer price for the part (although I'm sure there are different versions that vary a bit in price).

Its from GSF .... but is Hirschmann

I'de just get a mast Howard - the grumpy noises were almost certainly the old sticky mast

Replacing just the mast is easiest, because you don't need to undo any trim.

At least that's been the case on every car I've done it on in the past. (Near side aerials and country lanes don't really mix).

I'm thinking the way of Jay TBH ...

For a tenners difference, to have a whole new thing , the old one is probably 10 years old at least ..... imagine if i bought a mast for £18 and then next month the motor went .... another £32 ...... Not bank breaking but enough to p*** me off ...... ;)
