I need a new (or working used) electric aerial for a 1994 W124 estate but am having difficulty finding the right part number to find one on any parts websites. ANyone point me in the right direction, or is it possible to bring a dead one back to life?

they are Hirschmann aerials fitted from new - they are very very good. Are you sure it is the aerial and not just the mast or a connection to it - they are normally very robust.

Hi,
Euro car parts sell good quality replacement electric aeriels, though I bought one from Euromerc (mercedes nic member on here) when mine needed replacing.
As smiley says they are very good, mine only needed replacing because the mast siezed solid and the mast retaining nut completely sheared.

Thanks Andy, I've found this one at EPC but its says its for a saloon, anyone know if the saloon and estate aerials are the same? The rubber seal on mine that seals the hole in the body has been damaged over the years, are these generally included or are they a separate part?

You normally get a selection of seals for different body angles if you buy an after market one.

What's wrong with the aerial, does it not extend when you turn on radio, mine did exactly the same the other week, and i found it to be the connection from the radio to the aerial mech in the boot. I know its not the same car, but it had worked its way loose, check connections to aerial and to radio. It can't hurt.;)

If all that is wrong with yours is the seal MB use to sell them separetly IIRC.

You can buy spares for Hirschmann from Signo Communication Electronics amongst others. You would be advised to try and diagnose the fault as you can fairly easily exceed the cost of a new replacement aerial if you buy a few bits. I think you can buy replacememt grommets, but you need to get the right one for your car.

The aerial is also available from GSF on this page.

Maintenance of aerials is often overlooked, but all they need is a good clean and then a wipedown with silicone grease. Other lubricants dry and gunge them up.

Mine is permanently up, came that way with the car so I've no idea what happened. There isn't a sign of any life when the radio is switched on or off, I'll take it out during the week and see if I can coax it back to life. I've found the GSF listing Sorry Pete, thanks for that.
