Where the header tank hose mates to the radiator -a black plastic elbow! Mine is weeping. I think I can see a bit of grommet poking out of a joint on the elbow.

Can anybody advise what needs replacing here please?

Part # a0005000894 is the elbow complete with new O-ring, should be less than a fiver from MB. Google will get you pics, it's held in by tangs on the elbow itself which might be at fault if they've gotten tired/were damaged by previous hamfistedness.

To remove the existing elbow (whether to replace or refit with a fresh O-ring) the proper* way is to remove the top hose for access and use a ring spanner (can't remember the ideal size) to compress the tangs while you pull it out

* brute force and ignorance probably also works but more likely to break the thing or damage the plastic rad tank

Wow. What a great reply. Tells me everything I needed to know. Thank you.

Rather annoyingly, when this dripped. It ran down onto the bottom hose, giving that the appearance of being at fault. I spotted a tiny drop at the elbow when cleaning the car. Dried it with paper towel and waited. Sure enough it soaked the paper over a few hours. Problem solved.

Thank again for the great reply.

£2.95 from Mercedes Maidstone. Rather amusingly, David (their parts manager) said to me, as I read him the part number "I bet you thought you had a leak in your bottom hose?"

It is common failure and usually comes "after" people have replaced the bottom hose and clips.

There's a one or two on here you usually rely on Bruce. Nice to have them. :)

I picked one up from Germany .Dont know why i had it from there. And on the way it was lost .But in the mean time i picked one up from M/B And after i removed it i replaced the old O ring so i have it as a spare.

Remembered there's a WIS page for it http://www.w124performance.com/service/w124CD1/Program/Engine/103/20-4270.pdf

I suspect a lot of them get broken when leaning in to change other hoses/get at other bits of engine? The elbow on mine had been broken and bodged back together with silicone RTV when i bought the car. First time i did some work on the car i snagged it with a sleeve and broke the bodge
