W124 left hand front wing

I've recently bought some for my W124 restoration.

Here's a picture :

My pre facelift car has holes in the side for the indicators. This new part does not. The body shop will have to do that for me.

The back has the Red Dot logo in the corner :

I am unsure whether they would paint over this or not. I suspect not, but it might be worth checking.

(Sorry about the photo quality, they come in black primer.)

I hope that helps a bit.

Cheers,
Blondebier

The one in question is different to yours as in your one has two pressed sections where the cladding goes, this one has just one, the slimmer one if that makes sense.
This one has the 6 holes just like yours, but the 3 holes which are near the middle of the wing are under the slim pressed section whereas your one has the holes located in the fatter pressed section.

Thanks for posting the pics up, wish i could (broken camera!), defo think its pattern now.....

The wings without indicator repeater holes are a different part number.
A1248804818 (right) and A1248805018 (left).

Hi guys,

Need some expert help here, to cut a long story short, iv been after a couple of wings for the my facelift W124 cabriolet, which is awaiting a full respray.

I have just been offered a passanger side second hand wing, by someone local who says its original, I would like to know if theres any part number stamped on or anything like that to give me an idea that its oem ?.....

He also says its a late one, but its got no hole for the side repeater, & has 6 holes for the side cladding..... Is this a late one or an early one?

By the way the inside edge of the wheelarch does seem bigger & less rolled than the ones on my car at the moment, which leads me to beleive its an early one, but can someone confirm?......its in what seems like Nautic blue if that helps...

Cheers Dee

If you're paying for a full respray on a car you like why risk a copy wing?

My sentiments entirely, hence my apprehension towards it, but I figured for 30 quid its worth going for, just to gain the chance of investigating further what it is exactly....At worst Im lighter by 30 quid, or at best Iv got a bargain.

The way it looking its probably pattern anyway, & ill probably end up looking elsewhere.

To be honest I didnt foresee it being this hard to find good original S/H wings, but should have known better as they are a w124 achilles heel.

At this rate, ill probably end up going the MB brand new route!

Ian B Walker mentions in a few old posts about a company called Hastings that do pattern wings that fit well and are good quality.....

Myth.

There are *no* good quality copy wings, they all either don't fit very well, or rust away.

If you're paying for top quality paint work there's no point painting cheap rubbish.

Well just rang Parts dept M-B Brentford, and the gent on the phone gave me a price of 198gbp + VAT for one new wing, so thats almost 230 quid per side, so basically near 500 quid for the pair....ouch!

Thats money I had hoped to put towards the respray... blonebier, how much did you pay for yours, if you dont mind me asking?

Cheers Dee

Found them on eBay. I paid around £100 including delivery I think... Quite a good deal really. The front door though was another matter.

Made my eyes water!

That was for one. The other was £88!:bannana:

I was quite pleased with that.

As most used wings you find have rust issues, I did contemplate importing some from South Africa. South Africa you say?
Well yes.

They have loads of W124s and because the climate is so good, the cars never rust.

I was going to get some from these guys : http://www.mercusedparts.co.za/

Front wings were R450 which is about £30. All you need to arrange is a courier to collect them. Probably loads cheaper than paying full MB retail price.

Another option maybe?

Was that from one of the companies trading on ebay or were they from a general seller that you stumbled accross?

They were both private sales.
