due to the substancial milage on my 300d the rear axle is causing problems when driving. i know the rear bushes that join subframe to chassis are cold done and looks like a big enough job to replace, has anyone done this or have any tips to ease the job at hand?my plan was to drop the axle out complete, as well as replacing the 4 subframe bushes im going to blast and paint subframe, replaces all other rear arms and bushes, clean and underseal body where axle sits,2 drive rubbers and carrier bearing for drive shaft also need replaced. so more or less overhaul the complete rear end.
doing all the work mysel as soon as my spark gets my new lift wired up at home:rock:

any tips greatly welcome

The front bushes on the rear subframe are easy. You can do them with the subframe dropped a little - you don't need to take it out completely.

The only thing you'll need to make up is something to pull the new bush in - some threaded bar and a couple of big washers will do. There is also some special lubricant for the rubber which you can get from MB, which eases the job - don't be tempted to use oil or grease, it will rot the rubber.

i want everything mint thats why i wanna do the lot. restore her to perfection, sorry if im a fussy C**t, yea most people dont realize how much damage oil/grease can do to rubber, have special lube in work for rubber bushes, will do the trick

will be overhauling front end aswel after the rear gets sorted, cheapest i could get the 4 bushes was £80, anyone know anywhere that'd beat that

You probably knackered the bushes from all those burnouts you keep doing!

A side at a time ,use a little heat (butane torch) and a couple of levers.
Make sure you have a fire extinguisher, you never know!
They come out a treat .
Fit with two sets of water pump pliers (channel lock pliers)
The big ones and use pledge as a lubricant.
Then wax or paint the subframe if the original paint is burnt

here you have some new parts i put last week on my baby:

that is what has been taken out after 192k:
Imageshack - 07112009526
and after 14 hours of work we came up with something like this:
Imageshack - 07112009529
well, i have done all the bit you want to do, + wheel bearings, most shot part was(see first picture 617 22 0055- don't know how to call it), I wouldn't save on quality that's why I chose Lemforder/Mercedes original parts, you'll be looking £500+ parts only, unless you go for cheap ones and do it again in few years.there are special tools requiared for a lot of work(but can do it diffrent way-as others say) and if you haven't got a proper workshop well equiped don't do it on the driveway!!

my lift isnt wired up yet so jacked her up and gonna do it on the ground, didnt get much done today, slacken exhaust clamps, removed brake calipers and slackened 4 main subframe bolts, will get stuck in after work tomorrow and get drive shaft and handbrake cables off, shocks also need removed, think i'll have to cut out the bolts on the bodyside of antiroll bar bushes, looks as if the heads rotted off the 4 small bolts

was pricing about there for parts,
4 arms each side,
2x2 bottom arm bushes,
2anti roll bushes,
2 anti roll droplinks,
2 front subframe bushes
set of apex 30mm lowering springs

£295

does this sound reasonable or deer to you guys? all bushes and arms are Lemforder as far as i know

Get sportline arb,and also get some 4pot brakes to.

you will need a sport badge on the back and some stick on flames down the side too in that case :)
