W163 tow bar fitment

Hi I am new to the forum.
I have a W163 '99 vintage and I have bought a second hand removable tow bar.
This is a Westfalia 313 179 model, my problem is, I have since read this is not recommended for an ML with rear spare carrier. However, I have been told it's O.K. as the Mercedes own part is a Westfalia one and they don't make any distinction between having a rear carrier or not. I am confused and need to know which is right as I have a daughter is pressing me to get a bar fitted for her horse trailer.

The Ml fitted with a spare wheel carrier comes with a longer Neck towbar
I do not think you could get a genuine MB

Sadly I think your right about the length issue, I have just found a web site with the Merc' parts illustrationed and it clearly shows the removable bar is for the 2000 onward model. Part No. 163 315 03 99 for the removable bar. Looks like I will have to buy a static bar and even then they have two lengths, Hey ho!
