W201 Replacement AMG Engine

Selling your old springs mate?

You mean the springs I replaced with the H&Rs? Ian left them for me in my boot after the work was done but I just asked him to dump them. I imagine he did but you may want to speak to him just in case he held on to them.

What about this for an idea then? Since the problems with the 36 motor are mainly associated with the different head, what about I get my existing head ported and machined and mounted on a 104 block (3.2 or 3.6).

The idea here would be that sure I'd have some machining bills but the actual install would be pretty straightforward as I'd be able to reuse my existing wiring, anciliaries, etc.

Would it work? Gains not worthwhile? Something to look into further?

Would you plan to use your stock ECU on this? If so, then I would imagine it would not map properly to the different characteristics of the modded engine, and would probably run like a pig, or worse (i.e. hole a piston, etc). You would need to be very careful!

You cant use a m103 head with a m104 bottom end, it will bolt on but thats all, as the oil-ways are in the wrong place and the chain is the wrong thickness. (I tryed it!)

My current engine is more what you need, but it's a bit of messing about to build one....;)

Is that a 3.6?:dk:

Yes, I built it myself after work. This is a c36 bottom end mated to a early m104 head and injection system. It also has the 5 speed dogleg box from the 190 cosworth and a remus exhaust.

Very nice, those tinted rear lights though
Also I might be wrong but the Remus is not a mercedes one

Correct, this remus is from a diesel golf and gives a slightly deeper tone than the proper mercedes item on my 300e. I have also removed the resornaters from the front section.

I suspect you've been looking at it on peachparts, but if not good observation.

No I have not seen it but it sticks out to much compared to mine

So, does the early 104 head and injection system mean less faffing with electrics then?

Was that a reasonably straightforward install - after modding the engine?

Could be that's what I want then. Either an early 36 motor with k-jet complete or a later 36 with any early 104 k-jet head. Presumably, both would need a remap otherwise all good.

Any downside I'm missing :D

I mentioned a remap there but presumably I'd want to use the ECU off the 104 donor engine rather than remap mine?

The early m104 still use's k-jet which makes it plug and play with your car, the c36 only comes with efi which is a big job to fit in a 190.

Once you have modified the engine to run with the early head and injection system it will bolt straight in. You dont have to remap it, just adjust the idle mixture a little.
