W201 Replacement AMG Engine

The early m104 still use's k-jet which makes it plug and play with your car, the c36 only comes with efi which is a big job to fit in a 190.

Once you have modified the engine to run with the early head and injection system it will bolt straight in. You dont have to remap it, just adjust the idle mixture a little.

What modifications have to be made to the 36 block to make it run with the early 104 head? And by early 104 head do you mean one from a 300-24?

Yes the m104.980 from the 300e-24, I bought a complete donor car to keep cost's down.

The early head will bolt straight on to the 36 block, with a c36 head gasket.
You then need to transfer the 3.0 timing chain guide rail setup on to the 36 block.
The c36 camshafts wont fit the 3.0 head but the 3.0 cams are quite aggressive anyway, however YOU MUST USE THE C36 VVT SPROCKET on the inlet cam otherwise you will bend the valves.

Then just assemble the engine like the 3.0 was, using all the parts from the donor car. When you come to fit the oil filter housing you have a choice to make, option 1: is to fit a m103 type oil filter housing if you dont want the oil cooler from the 300e-24. Or option 2: use the housing from the 300e-24, but you will have to cut away 4 bosses on the side of the c36 block so the metal pipes from the oil cooler have room to fit in. (these bosses used hold the trottle body on the c36 manifold)

Then bolt on the inlet manifold and injection system from the donor car, and fit the wiring as well.
