The heating in my C240 has developed a slight fault. It will run OK and give hot and cold air when wanted but on some occasions when its on it will just switch off and then start again at random times when driving. Often it will not start when switched on and will decide to start whilst driving. Either the switch/dial is faulty or a wire has come loose.

I have had it for a few years and it only developed this fault recently.

Any thoughts where to start?

Its more than likely the resistor thats located next to the blower motor thats probably gone bad.

I have had this problem intermittently too, any opinions would be welcome.

Having googled it, this does seem common - motors, brushes, blowers, resistors etc. all failing Hopefully someone more expert will come along

There is a fan in the overhead control panel, this fan sucks cabin air over a sensor to determine the cabin temperature, what use the heating system makes of this information I do not know. I was thinking, if the 2 vents in overhead control panel were temporally blocked with electrical tape would there be any alteration to the problem/fault?

Might be worth a try to see what happends.
