Hi,

New to the forum on my second W202 (previous C180) now on W202 C250td W-reg but I'm having trouble finding decent and concise information on lowering a sport?
I'm looking for maybe another -20 to -30mm more than standard sport?
Can anyone point me in the right direction I think springs would be good or springs and shocks if needs be.
I've read about the different spring seats I've dealt with these on other vehicles previous but they don't give sufficient drop also as its a sport I'm presuming they are thinnest already?

Sport has shorter shocks and springs but the spring perches are determined by equipment level to ensure same ride-height across the range.

250TD is likely the heaviest engine so if you have aircon, automatic and leather from the factory it probably has the thickest spring perches. You'll only drop 15-20mm maybe per corner but they're under a tenner each. Post your VIN, list all your factory options or take a look at the top of the springs (front is easy, rear more tricky) to determine which perches you have.

Well its C250 TD with aircon leather etc so ill have to have a look tonight then where abouts on them do they tell you the numbers?

There are pimples on them, the number of pimples is the number of the perch.

I have a full set of new #1 perches (thinnest), I brought for my car without looking at what was on it already!!

Once I looked, I already had #1's on there!

Had to order them in from the Stealer so cant take them back!

They are not too bad to fit, Front ones I used a spring compressor, and back ones, support lower arm with a jack and take the bolt out and lower gently and the spring comes out.

The perches/shims/pads (whatever!) have little rubber bumps moulded into them so you can tell without looking if needed, it's on the outside of the spring IIRC. I took a pic and posted it on the forum a few years ago but can't find it right now, will search again later.

I've got under just but i cannot feel or see any bumps of any kind, the front measures 45mm in depth and i have no idea on the rear as i cannot see them i'm presuming they are up inside above the top metal plate the spring is in?
Any help or advice on what plates would give -20 to -30mm drop

The spring pads sit up int the spring cups at the top,

The pimples/bumps are on the outside edge. if you get in there with a torch you should be able to see them.

You should be able to see the fronts by putting the car on full lock, you will need to lift the back up to see the back ones.

There is the little metal washer thing that the spring sits on at the wishbone end, then the spring, then the rubber spring pads on top inside the sping cup.
 
yeah that's what I've done for the front got right in but couldn't see them at all for some reason? but could measure the thickness of it, I presumed the back was like that I'm presuming the front is 4 or 5 (45mm Depth) and rear 3 or 4?

I'm also presuming once I've swapped these for lower ones i just get the tracking done and it will be fine? are there any other issues i would come across ? or not as its not really lowering much?

If I were you I would try and make sure, what is on there first!

Measuring the thickness of the outside wont tell you what they are, as the measurement is from what rubber is left. The middles of them are cut out so the spring sits in. If you get what I mean!

If you want the pads I bought £ 20 collected or plus postage :thumb:
 
Also regarding the tracking, I would have the wheels aligned as mine needed doing anyway as the wheels were wearing a bit unevenly, and I had replaced the bottom ball joints.

But if the car drives straight and tyres are wearing evenly, i think it would be ok!
 
I've just had another look at the front and the springs have 8-9coils each but the passenger side doesn't seem to have a rubber at all? on feeling it or looking? i'm just presuming with it been the diesel with what seems like most extras it will have the thicker in? do you have a pic of yours? so i can see the lowness of the 1's?

The wheels are 17" AMG's

I bought the pads to see if it would lower it anymore, but when i took it apart i had #1's on there already, so didnt replace them.

Hence the new set I've still got!

I Havent done anything else to lower it! Shocks and springss are standard.
 
205/55/16 P6000's on std 6 spokes i dont know if it will be loo low or not if your on 17's as it looks low! on yours?
 
The height doesnt change much with 16 or 17" wheels ,

On 16" rim the tyre profile is 55

On 17" rim the tyres are 45 on the front and 40 on the back.

The car will be at almost the same height as the thinner tyres compensate for the larger rim and vise versa.

I have both sets of wheels and neither make the car too low.

where abouts are you in the country, if your local you can come and have a look
