W202 C250 Sport Lowering

I know it's old time chopping the springs :) I've asked the guy on the ones Jon put a link up to if they will lower the sport, na my old no1's are split and knackered so ill replace them while doing the springs once I can find the correct ones, is your a sport?

It is yeah. I've no idea what pads it's got or anything. Bought it a week ago and hardly used it cos of my exams. Got some 18s to go on, on Saturday but hoping it won't make it look like a tractor.
Let me know how you get on mate and whack some photos up. Where in Cheshire are you?

nr Crewe mate, put a pic up when you've done it :thumb: I'm waiting for a reply from the guy on ebay on the apex ones at the min.

I've had a reply...

Hi Jake,

These APEX lowering springs are designed to lower 5 and 6-cyclinder W202 saloon models by approximately 30mm, though given that your vehicle has a reduced ride height over standard model variants, this will be reduced. Therefore, if the ride height of the Sport is 20mm lower than standard model variants, the lowering achieved by installation of the APEX springs will in effect be just 10mm. As I do not have any information indicating how the ride height of the Sport model differs from that of other model variants, I am unable to state specifically how much the vehicle would be lowered by fitting the APEX springs.

If you are able to determine how the Sport differs from other model variants in terms of ride height and can advise how much wish to lower the vehicle, we will be happy to advise on available lowering springs.

Regards,

Alex

Crest Motorsport

What do you think to this ?

Apex springs are not the best quality. The ride can be very harsh.

Have you thought about H&R springs?

I had apex on my clio 172, they were a bit gash to be honest. Threw you all over the place

You get what you pay for. It is a simple as that. Cheap springs give a cr@p ride.

I am a H&R supplier and I can get you a very good price on a set of lowering springs. PM me your reg and I will see what I can do.

If you want to go very low consider the 1 burl spring pads too.

40/40 or 50/50 for 96 onwards near the bottom

I think the EP555677150 seem best ?

hi, you wont be disappointed with the Cobra springs. They have been developing springs for Mercedes cars since the early 1980's, they also developed DTM springs for MW E30 & Mercedes 190e touring cars.

I personally have tested their springs and shock absorbers (no longer available).
Cobra suspension also has a good policy of providing buyers with the actual springs rate of the springs, rather than just "oh its about 6-8% stiffer".

do you know what spring rates you are using right now??

cheers

I have no idea they are standard sport springs, no on seems to be able to give the exact height a merc sport is lower than standard as if its 30mm and i buy 30mm springs i presume it will be the same ?!

what sort of price are you h and r springs and springs and shocks? 50mm/50mm

Thanks

H&R do not do 50mm lowered springs.

H&R do 30MM springs then fit 1 burl spring cups and you will be able to lower about 45mm.

PM me your reg and I will get a price.

I already have no1 pads on and with been a sport 30mm lower im presuming will be the same?

Hi fella,

do you now the part no. for your front shocks?

get the part no. and we'll check what other w202's were fitted with the same shock. This will help in finding the lowest spring available to work with those shocks. 50mm will probably be the lowest you can get to work with the OEM shocks.
