Hi all - I'm after a bit of advice!

I recently bought a 1999 W202 C250TD Classic - my first Mercedes. I have already done 7,000 + miles in it & am very impressed.

As with all 'older' cars previously unforseen faults are bound to appear as you settle into ownership & get to know the vehicle. So far the only problem I can find is the heater system. The fan on the blower makes all the right noises as you turn the switch but doesn't blow much air out - even on the highest setting. This is obviously a pain on frosty mornings as it can take a while to clear the screen.

From reading other posts on this (superb) forum I am hopeful that this minor fault can be easily fixed. I would appreciate a bit of guidance as to what the cause(s) of the fault could be so I can then fix it by using a process of elimination if there are a number of possible causes.

Sometimes the bushes on the top of the motor go and cause a fault. Or it could just be that you need to take the motor out, give it a clean, particularly the contacts and then put it back in. However, if its going, it'll be only a matter of time before the motor needs replacing.

Can you switch the speeds on it from the controls above the radio?

pollen filter could be blocked too, that's an easy one to check.

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, I can alter the fan speed - the switch works OK & there is a change in tone as you change the fan speed. It just doesn't blow any more air out as you increase the fan speed!

From the feedback so far it sounds like an easy fix once the problem is identified.

I agree with pollen filter blocked. Easy fix. Take off the side vent from the transmiussion tunnel first, then undo the 3 x phillips screws to drop the cover from the underside of the glovebox/ top of footwell. Then you will see the longer of the two black plastic plates that has 2 x sliding clips. Slide the clips all the way off and ease off the pollen fiolter cover. filter can be wedged in weith age, but a little easing with a screwdriver will release it. It cannot look any worse than mine did!
