Hi,

I am planning to do the front seal change on my '94 W202 (no sperr. diff).
I have bought the seal, and checked by the shop what is actually 'inside' to change the it.

Am I right that, I have to:

- undo the drive shaft from the diff
- undo the nut from the axle
- take out the 'thing' that the driveshaft is connected to with a stripper
- change the seal and put everything back again

How much torque do I need to tighten the nut again in Nm?

Thanx,
Attila

Don't know the torque but the procedure is correct.

hi mate

do you have the part numbers for the bits you are replacing, how much etc? thanks mate

Thanx for the reply. I have found the followings in the Haynes manual:

Driveshaft
Shaft-to-final drive flange bolts 70Nm
Driveshaft retaining nut 220Nm

Final drive unit
Mounting bolts:
Front allen bolt 45Nm
Rear collared bolt 110Nm

Could you please tell me which one should be for the nut when replacing the seal? My technical english is not good enough to sort this out.

Hi,

I have bought the part in an independent store selling original part as well.
I do have it at hand, so cannot tell the number, but the is around 3-4EUR for the seal, and the same for the nut, which probably won't need replacement.

They sold them by VIN number.

The driveshaft retaining nut is the big one holding the spider onto the diff input shaft.

Thanks for the info. I will probably do the repair this weekend. I will try to do a "How To" and post it later.
