W202 fault code reader

Hi Steve

I haven't tried that yet it started to rain when I first hooked it up so gave up.

I will give that a try as soon as I can,I have emailed the company that sold it to me be interesting what they say.

I gave them all the details of my car and they said this was the one for my car.

Reading this with interest!!

So, you bought the scanner from e-bay, and a 16-38 pin adaptor, and that's it?

Keep us informed!!!!! :bannana: :bannana:

I think you will find that it works Ok as the ECU is outputting ISO K line on Pin4, it just doesn't have the OBDII socket inside the car.
Could be a nice mod.
Wiring the back of the 38 pin socket to a 16 pin OBDII connector in the armrest (or similar) would be neat.

A while back I found somewhere selling 38 pin and 16 pin connectors shells etc can't find the link now!

Thats right Dave

As I said when hooked up to the 38 pin plug and I turn the ignition on I get things happening and it seems to be reading info from the ECU but because my car is running OK it obviously is not giving any fault codes

Look at the links on this thread for scanner info and cable info

£40 is a good buy, I got mine from Europarts for £260, a rip-off.

Just get one from either a dealer or breaker. All the Merc ones are the same p/n, then hard wire it into the cables in the back of the 38pin socket.

It should fit under the dashboard on the drivers side, next to the bonnet release.

Why, what's wrong?
Try unplugging a sensor like the MAF or water temp sensor to force a temporary fault and see if it picks it up and clears it.

Hey Dieselman

Why did I not think of that, if it isn't raining tomorrow I will do just that.

I was just thinking about the guy selling a scanner that is probably not suitable for my car because it does say in the instruction manual if the car is not OBD-11 it will not work.

Thanks guys
Getting a lot of good feedback on this it would be nice to have a scanner that works.

I had a read of the manual the "live" selection on the menu should give you engine speed etc according to that. Interested to know if it works.

Rain - excuses, was only a short shower or two :D

P.S. Asda has petrol

Scanner is working great, doing RPM,speed,Timing,Coolant temp. plus loads more so well pleased for £50.00.

Only thing is I put a fault on which it has registered I had no faults before,I disconnected the MAF and it came up P0110 Intake Air Temperature Circuit Malfunction
Only problem it says clear codes and I said yes but it hasn't done it so for some reason although it is saying it is clearing the codes it is still there.

Ah. That's not so good then! Is it just a fault code on the scanner, or do you have a warning lamp on the car?

norman. Try driving the car through a few cold to hot cycles and see if it resets then. At the moment this is possibly seen as a live fault so can't be reset.

Thanks both
Dave No warning lamps and car is going fine so code is sitting there but obviously because I have reconnected the MAF it is not a problem.

Thing is I don't want it on my ECU particularly.

Fault should clear itself after a number of re-starts without further occurance (I'm not sure of the exact number).

Thanks Steve
As I said good scanner for the money I have emailed the guy regards not clearing will let you know what he says.

That's handy the company that I bought this scanner from has a forum set up on the same lines as this one for questions, problems Etc.

Right guys update on scanner progress.

I did as Dieselman and Steve said took it for a run last night, checked the car with the scanner this morning and all is OK.

Good result (Very Pleased)

What would we do without this forum

Must put the nannas in :bannana::bannana::bannana::bannana::bannana::bannana::bannana:
