W202
i own a '99 C200, it is amazing, but the only problem facing me at the moment is that then ever i try to release the foot break by pulling the foot brake handle the foot break pedal wont release  i have to pull the handle and push the pedal from underneath by foot for the red light to turn off in the instrument cluster, i called MB workshop and i was told this will need a whole day at the workshop and it will cost a lot  anyone got an idea if i can fix that at home? or what the problem is?

There are some threads on here for fixing the problem in a W203 but I can't find anything for a W202 not sure whether they will be of any benefit. Hopefully someone will be along in a bit to help you out.

Mine did that on the first drive of the day but then behaved itself for the rest of the day. Then one freezing morning this month it started behaving as it should :dk:

Most of the items that can bind and stick are not too difficult to get at. Remove the rear seat base and any sound deadening material under it, this will reveal an access panel which on removal will give access to the parking brake 'Y' divider. A good dose of 3-in-1 may well solve the problem.

Depending on how hard you've pushed the pedal down, the spring and bracket higher up the lever arm is the weak point (i.e. the spring causes the metal to stretch) and can cause fatigue. On mine the bracket broke off and meant the foot brake needed to be replaced.

You may want to check this by removing the trim under the steering column.
