Car
Merc w202 200
i have c200 w202 and the problem seems to be that once the engine has warmed up, the gears do not wanna change up or down but if you put your foot down it revs to about 4k 5k and then it changes gear, it does not really help when your driving at around 15 to 20 mph around down. sometimes a very funny smells can be smelt like sulphur or ammmonia.
also when the problem starts it just holds back like there is a blockage somewhere and if you stop it will stall sometimes.
i have changed the ignition coils, spark plugs, maf sensor.
can it be the egr valve or is it a gearbox problem?
any light on this will be great.
cheers

I had that problem with my car,
It stuck in first all the way to red line then changed.
So driving slowly and smoothly was just about impossible.

It turned out to be the transmission i got a transmission specialist
to look at it and he pulled it all apart and put it back together fixed for
around AUD$ 1500.

Are you having trouble with your reverse gear?

reverse is ok,
also if i pull away slowly keep the rev below 2k it changes ok even at normal engine temp.
i was thinking if it was the gearbox problem would it not be problomatic hot or cold.
gonna get a former mb tech to do hook it to his diagnostic to see what it throws up with.

my reverse gear was the first to go :(
i found the car moved a little better when cold.

When i had the problem..

but yeh an MB Tech should fix it up no worries

Your problem definately Transmission related! Anyway, When was the car last serviced? Have you had the gearbox oil been changed? If not, I suggest having this done first, Possible the filter too! It has been known that old/high mileage oil to effect the way the transmission responds to throttle input. Just a though!
