Can anyonew confirm whether or not the dash lights up around the headlight control knob on the right of the steering wheel?

When i put the lights on all the rest of the dash controls light up but the ones around the headlight control knob don't. I suspect the previous owner who had an aftermarket alarm/immobiliser fitted used the power to this area to power the alarm led indicator which they positioned in the same area.

Just wanted to check before i removed everything to reconnect the dash lighting! :D

There is no lighting behind there. A glaring omission, if you will pardon the pun.

But it could be a mod to consider

I thought the same when I had my W202 and pulled the switch out because I thought the bulb had gone! guess what none in there :D

There is a bulb behind the knob but not for the surrounding dash graphics, thats not working on mine but like i said i think that was sacrificed for the alarm led.

Now theres a thought!

I actually wanted to change all my dash lighting to blue to match my illuminated door sills, might have to add that into the equation! Anyone with pros and cons for using leds or led bulbs for dash lighting!?

My W203 is the same, I thought that the bulb was blown, but couldn't be bothered to get it changed as I cant even see it whilst I'm driving. :bannana:

The w124 has an illuminated panel and it's very similar in shape to the W202, the W210 also has an illuminated panel (I think). It might be possible to install one of those in the W202 but it would be messy. At least the dial is practically the same in style and function on almost all models :)

I agree about the lack of illumincation around the light switch, I think this has been a serious cost cutting exercise on behalf of MB. Can't see any other reason for it, at least it mean sthat we don't need to replace a dashboard bulb when it blows.

Another design modification that I've noticed is that when front fog/driving lights are on, there is a glarey reflection of the green illuminated dial on my drivers window which often catches my eye when looking on the wing mirror.

I know that I shouldn't have fog lights on when driving when it is not foggy but I do it occaisionally to see how many people flash at me, makes me feel like I have loads of friends!! :D
