Can anyone suggest a tool to remove the oil filter on a 97 C180? Its the drop in filter not canister type? Or do i have to get the proper tool from MB :-(

You can get the tool from Hellfrauds or any VW dealer too.

Also, You can get it from any BMW motorcycle dealer.......it's the same tool that they use for the 'K' series bikes...costs about £7.

Got one from Halfords, £4.99. Changed the oil and filter this afternoon and used MILLERS XSS 10w40. I dont know what was in there, but it was exceptionally clean, even after 7000miles. The filter was in a terrible state though, goodness knows when it was changed. All services done by MB and next one wasnt due for another 3000!

Probably the latest high spec synthetic. The MB dealer will have 50 gallon drums of it in the workshop. Since they all suck out the oil thro the dipstick if you dont change the filter an "oil service " takes just minutes! In the old cannister days at least you could check a new filter had been fitted!
