w202 stock headunit

Im thinking of swaping out my stock headunit for a new deck/headunit.
Do all aftermarket headunits work with out cars (as long as it is correctly wired by a professional). My main thing is.. Ive just been looking online to purchase a unit that would fit any standard vehical. Will it work in my car?
