I have just tried to change my wiper blade by fitting a listed 24inch blade. However, my blade is a 21inch and the 24inch overlaps the edge of the windsceen by 3inches. Obviously I have a longer wiper arm.

Has anybody come accross this or have any ideas what blade will fit???

Where did you buy it from is it oem or something that came from halfords.I bought one from halfords a while ago it never fitted so now I always buy oem only about £6

It is possible to also try and fit the blade the wrong way round. I don't think the anchor point is exactly half way up the blade. Well it can't. as I found that one way the blade overlapped the edge of the screen by half an inch and the other way the blade fitted perfectly. Having said all that it sounds like yours is deffo too long, if it's overshooting by a good 3 inches

*EDIT* By the way if you at the dealership and ask for a new wiper they will charge you approx £20 quid for a new blade. However if you ask for a refill rubber like Pluggers then you will get the replacement rubber for around £6. I've seen people stung like this before. OEM is better as I find it glides more easily (therefore silently) over the glass, manufactured by Bosch I believe.

That is strange, all W202 and T202's have 24" wiper blades. Without sounding patronising you do have a 202 with a single wiper and not a newer 203 with twin wipers?

I think the W201 190 series had a smaller version of the panoramic single wiper.

Indeed, both the 201 and 124...

It's a 1995 C200 with one wiper. The 24inch was from Halfords but I've checked with German, Swedish and French and it should be a 24inch. I'm wondering if someone has changed the arm on the car at some time. This is the first time I've gone to change the blade since having the car.

I can either try to find a blade that fits or go to a shorter arm!!

To be honest I thought all variations of the W202 used the same wiper mechanism. I would go with trying to find a blade that fits as opposed to a shorter arm. Is it possible you can post some close up pictures?

Yes, all 202's have almost the same mechanism, however on the later ones, they switched the motor to face the opposite direction, so it uses a different casting.

The actual up/down part and where the arm attches to is identical.

You will find that 124/201 arms may fit to be honest.

I have never tried, but they attach exactly the same etc...

I'll try a 124/201 blade and let you know what happens.

Thanks,

Ken.

Apparently it's a seized wiper mechanism. It should have a 24" blade but the arm is stuck in the extended position.

Ouch. Hope you can free it without a new one.

Do a search for “wiper” on this site, there are several threads with the information you need. I open mine up every 6 months and grease it.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.
