I have a 2002 W203 220CDI Avantegarde, which I have just added 2005 sport leather to. Is there any way of making these heated even though I have no switches in the car? Or is it impossible.
Also, I was looking at upgrading the centre stereo and a/c controls from a facelift version. Are they compatible?

I am pretty sure that the centre console from the 2004 onwards facelift model is not compatible (someone will correct me soon if I am wrong).
You can however get a W203 'luxury' digital climate control panel to fit; search the forum for 'climatronic'.

BTW was that the sports interior that was on E-Bay for £1k?

The heated seat elements are integrated into the leather on models equipped with heated seats, for fabric seats the elements are separate and not too expensive. Your stealership parts dept should be able to help you with some of this, it is probably a relay or two, a load of wiring and some switches.

If the leather was a replacement part then there should already be heater elements woven into the leather. The leads for the heating would have been part of the leather.

All you would then need is the main wiring harness and replacement (all option) switch row which you can blank out with the old switch row for absent options.

If the leather is something you got lucky with and it doesnt have heating then you can give the W202 / W168 / W463 heater pads a whirl.

So heating elements can be added to the seats in a W202? How much does this mod cost?

Dash parts come to about £150 depending on how you want to modify/replace the panels/switches, wiring is probably under £100 and the seat elements are about £30-40 each, two per seat (bum and back!).

You could do the rear seats too if you were bored, just double the costs...

Steve (MBenzNL) did this to is W202.

Neat, but I can think of 100 things Id rather mod/fit before it.

Hi Miro, how would you be able to tell if a leather w203 sport seat has heating elements built in ? is it fairly easy to tell by looking ?

Thanks !

If i remember right if you look under the seat you will find a row of plug / sockets. If the seats has heater elements there should be 2no 2 core cables leaving one of the larger sockets.

Basically the car harness plugs into these sockets.

If I'm wrong I'm sure i will be corrected.

I'm hoping that because mine is an 07 C200 that the leather has the heating built in and I can just add the loom and switch bank.

KillerHERTZ if you dont mind me asking where are the pages where Steve (MBenzNL) did these mods to his W202, Or are they a seperate site. A link to his mods list would be great

Thanks NW_Merc. Have to say this guy sure knows how to mod a W202 and to what high standard . Its amazing to see what he has achieved from his W202 that was once poverty spec and pre facelift to what is now extremly high spec and a faclift looker. Just brilliant, I can see where Koolvin got some mod ideas from

I'm trying to fit electric seats to my at the moment manual seated C180 too, as Steve has done this to his car I'm assuming he's the best person to ask advice from. However, he's on an install trip in the US.

Yup look at what he has done hes deffinatly the best person to ask !

Moving back to W203 - can anyone tell me how to identify if the leather seats already have the elements installed please ?

The loom is part number A2034405113. I've just ordered one to modify for the A class.

As for the elements, I'd be very suprised if they were already installed as they are circa £85 each and you need two per seat. The best way to find out is to take one of the seats out and pull the cover off.

I was basing my assumption that I might already have the elements woven in on this post by Miro - was hoping that it was a case of all later ones having them fitted ...

Sounds like your experience says different though !
