Greetings all,

I am the owner of a Pre Facelift W203 Coupe. Its a silver c180k. It is officially my first Mercedes Benz. I have had it checked out and have a "B Service" carried out by an Independent Merc Specialist in Birmingham. They reckon that I got a pretty decent car overall with just a few issues

My only problem is that its not that quick, I wish that I bought a bigger engined one.

My previous cars were mainly japanese. I am getting a roasting from some of my colleagues for being a "traitor" and driving a "panzar mobile". But its all good.

I hope that it treats me well

Welcome! You will have the last laugh when you arrive at your destination all calm and serene whilst they get there all frazzled! :)

Welcome along. You will have the last laugh on your colleagues.
Discerning taste will always beat those who travel in haste.
I have an assured feeling your next Mercedes will have a bigger engine but it will be a Mercedes and you will not return to a bone shaker from the land of the Rising Sun.

Welcome to the forum and to ownership of a Merc. Yes, maybe a bigger engine next time but for now just enjoy what you've got and its superior comfort etc. It's not all about performance. Which indie did you go to in Birmingham? WDM Cars in Perry Barr are very good.

I am surprised to read that you car isn't very quick. I recently swapped my BMW 320i for a Mercedes 180 Kommpresor and find the MB much livelier. I haven't tried it's top speed, it's not yet run in. Off to France in 6 weeks time, so will give it a blast.

You could always get your car chipped/mapped to increase it's performance.

PS. Sorry, welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum and MB ownership. :)

Post some pics soon.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. It is a comfortable ride and every day I get comments on how "smart" my car looks compared to previous. But it just hasnt got that right root effect that I love to feel. I might do a little tuning to it, but all of the stuff seems very expensive for very little BHP gain. Anyway, here is a pic of it at my local car wash.

Hi,

I'm new to the forum too, also on my first merc and also got a W203 coupe lol. looks like quite a tidy example mate...you got the full leathers which is always a plus as i've seen alot of 180k's that have cloth interior

You can "tweak" some of these engines up a bit by fitting a slightly larger larger drive pulley but the kits are a bit pricey IIRC. The name Kleemann comes to mind. Congrats on your first Benz.

Welcome. Nice car.
Yours probably is a little more sluggish than killwilly's new CLC as the engine has been tweaked a bit since your pre-facelift CL203 (the W203 is the saloon, but most people call them w203 coupe!)
At least you have the AMG body kit/wheels which makes it look fast :D.
There are not really any economic power upgrades- any tweaking exhaust/filters etc are not worth it, imo. As grober says, the pulley upgrade would be the best for a hike in performance, but the kits cost lots & then you need to add fitting them. Failing that, the cheapest option would be to swop for a bigger engined car- I would recommend the C200K post facelift, which is virtually as powerful as C230K pre-facelift.
Another thing you could try that will just make it feel faster, without any increased performance is one of the electronic pedal gizmos which reduces the electronic pedal lag- there are threads about them on here. Are they called 'sprintbooster' or something?
If you're desperate to do some upgrading, you could keep yourself happy in the meantime by 'facelifting' the lights to the later versions as it looks like you have the older opaque lenses. They can be picked up on ebay or probably cheaper at breakers.

Some consolation is that MB did produce a C160 !

Hi and welcome. Now you have tried an MB you can decide whether you like it and at a later date trade up for the extra power. The C320 is pretty nifty and not too thirsty.

PS - I know I'm probably being really stoopid here and this is probably enough to warrant chucking me off the forum - but I am a new yet-to-be MB owner, so that's my defence. What are you guys referring to with W203 and W204? I'm guessing they're codes for models of the car but can anyone explain in more detail? Thanks and sorry for being a dufus!

Hi all, another newbie here. Just purchased a 57 C Class Coupe C200K Evo. It is actually mainly for my partner to use for work (I have a Volvo S60 D5- sorry!) but she may let me use it occaisionally if I am good :).
I have been driving for a long time and this is the first MB I have driven. We live in the south but bought it from Yorkshire and reckon to have saved approx £2k. Shared the driving back last week and I loved it. First auto I have owned as well.
It is metallic black which we reckon looks great with the tinted panorama roof and glass panel/spoiler thing at the back.
Look forward to learning lots of things from all you lot.
Cheers, Chris

Welcome irietuning and what a nice car - Alloys and KIT look just like mine!!! I tested the 180 and went for an older 230K , I love the mid range grunt it has.
hope the tuning goes well....

Hi I too am a new MB owner, One thing I've noticed is that driving this car I don't need to worry about looking good or being fast as the car makes me feel good. They all look good no matter on what age they are.
