Hi all
One of my friends at work has a W203 pre-facelift which is suffering from a bit of sagging on the drivers seat. I'll try and get a photo to let you see.

As the seats are leather the drivers seat looks so bad compared to the passengers seat.

If terms of sitting on the seat you can tell the difference between the two so we assume its the padding underneath that has sagged.

What we are thinking is that if we replace the padding the leather will pull back into shape, what do you think?

Maybe if you catch it early. But if the leather has now stretched, it may still look baggy. Worth a shot though.

On a sensible note it is very hard to add foam unless you stick it down it will move.

It is quite easy to remove the skin.

I often used to get an old foam cushion from the re cycling center and cut it up, but that is easier said than done.

The best way to retain the correct shape would be to lift the existing piece off and pack it from the bottom say with a 2" piece of foam, use some Copydex glue and re fit the original, then the shape will be correct.

I light coat of Impact adhesive will work but care must be taken as this will melt the foam

I was thinking replacing the padding with a new OEM one as they are still available.

When you press down on the drivers seat you can feel a big difference between that and the passenger one.

I've a similar problem on a W210, it's almost as though the driver's seat bolsters aren't stuffed as well as they might be. The seat feels less firm somehow, no great sag though thank goodness. Upholstery not my strong point. Could it be that padding has just shifted?

My drivers seat is only slightly saggy.....but it still annoys me.

I took the car to a re-trimmer and they told me the leather is bonded to the foam and the only way to correct it is to strip it down and replace - which is the same price as re-trimming.

So as you can guess - im just going to live with it.

If the leather is bonded to the foam, I would have tried a piece of 2" foam under the whole thing, therefore retaining the shape

Have a look at this seat, this is from a W203.

Part no 10 is available for £70, the foam is not connected to the cover, how do you think retrofit covers are fitted.

Wully do you by any chance have a similar diagram for the W210?

I get the impression that on my seat there is a frame of some kind just underneath the leather and that is weaker on the drivers side.

You would need to check your model on the online EPC but heres a general one:-

Thanks, that really helps to understand what might be happening! It looks as though my hunch was right and number 10 (a frame) might need looking at.
The seat looks okay but it's the lack of firmness that's annoying. (as the actress said)
