W203 - funny sound when putting ignition "key" in

Normally it makes a mechanical whoosh sound but recently it sounds a bit weak and struggling (if you see what I mean). What is this sound and any ideas why it sounds a bit weak ?
 
I think i remember reading some where that this is to do with the power steering lock disengaging. Not 100% sure but if it still under warranty i'm pretty sure that if I am right on what the problem is it will get changed.

The noise you hear is indeed the motorised steering lock that engages/disengages when you insert or remove your key. They occaisionaly go wrong so get it checked sson!

True. If the lock is operable when it is replaced then the process is extremely easy to service. The bolt which dismantles the lock is only visible when the lock is not engaged. So fix it while it is working.
