On the standard - not an aftermarket version do the sides of the seats heat up ? From the diagram of on EWA it would seem so.

The diagram is from a W202 - the pads are not available separatly on the W203 - Apart from being sewn into the seat cover are they different in any other way ?

Also is there any control unit or is it just a case of the loom and new hazard switch panel ? - I want to keep the standard look

Cheers
Adam

The sides do not heat, only the base and back.

No idea about a control module. There's just a switch and that's part of the bank, not available seperately...

When I say the sides I mean the base sides, the bit your legs are on and the back sides - the bit the sides of your back are against.

They seem an odd shape in the diagram if they dont cover that area ?

If not then some decent sized aftermarket pads would do the job.

hi there for the w203, there is no control module for the heated seats, just a wiring loom and a switch row, which controls the level of heat in 2 stages and switches of after 30 mins use.
in terms of the heated pad area id only heats up you back and bum not the sides or the front of the base.

if you do manage to get hold of a heated seat pad replacement please let me know the part number, my seat pad is not working! need a replacement as my bum is getting cold in this weather

W202 or A class pads are about £60 each but if they are no different to Ebay pads as per the other thread then I'll go for them - preferably the carbon type.

What model do you have that is cold?

I'm waiting on a quote to get a set fitted...somewhere around the £500 mark, includes loom, aftermarket pads and genuine switch unit. - now I know there is no control module.

Cheers

i have the memory seat option with the heated nappa leathers, but the drivers seat base pad is no longer working, i guess that the pad is broken or something and when i put the multimeter across the terminals theres no continuity. but i dont really want to chage the whole base cover for my seat, just not worth the money i was quoted.

Sounds interesting, please keep us posted on how you get on with this. I've been keen to do this mod (but not at new Merc parts prices ;) !)

Should have the quote early next week, I'll let you know.

MB price - £325 for the seat base cover!!!

I'm sure mine has 3 stages..

may be 3 stages i have not actually looked too much in to it i just see that it goes off after 30mins, and i switch back on!

the parts new are expensive, but if you go to a salvage yard and at time ebay you can pick up the bit quite cheap, i paid next to nothing for my switch row,and the wiring loom from mercedes was around £30, and does both seats taking a feed from the fuse box and a grounded on the floor and plugs in to the seat and switch row.

How quickly do your heated seats warm up?....mine seem to take a while, even on highest setting.....the seats in my wifes W208 CLK cab warm up much quicker.

Mine too!

5min at 100% - 3 leds
10min at 60% - 2 leds
20min at 30% - 1 led

Any idea how these work ? I noticed on the other thread there are 2 sets of live wires for the copper wire aftermarket pads - Hot and Hotter I guess.

I was hoping the original switch units would provide the different voltage/current for the pads so I could heat the aftermarket carbon pads in 3 stages...

Edit must be just resistors in the switches and one set of live per pad as you can also get 5 position switches for the carbon pads - not sure why those copper ones have 2 sets of lives though ?

You can always do some tests on the bench with a spare battery. I would imagine that with aftermarket pads you need to select the MAX heating and the car will do the rest.

Quite interesting thread. Another would like to do thingy.....:D
Can't justify spending £500 though...especially when it only drops below 5ºC on a handful of days...
