Can any of you say how far you boot lid pops when you open it via either the fob or the door switch.

I just saw a new E-Class being opened and it opened open fully up where mines only release the catch.

Its should spring up fully open on all W203s just as you saw on the W211.

You either have faulty springs or they need adjusting as thetre are 3x adjusment levels for the springs to pop the boot open upon release!!!

You don't have a boot spoiler do you? They affect the boot opening because the lid's heavier at the worst point for leverage.

I think the springs can be adjusted, but they're quite serious springs. Try searching the forum there are pics IIRC :)

wully, atleast your springs don't go "boiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnngggggggg" :p or better still, you can have howard in there, he'll make sure he pushes the lid open all the item:D :D

If you hae little hands you can adjust the spring tension without removing the boot interior trim

Some of these have a limiter. The S class has two postions and is adjusted by pressing a sequence on the remote. Owner's manual gives the details

Boot Opening

It could be that one of the springs has become detached or a support bracket broken as happened to my C200. Known problem- the repaired both sides.

should pop up , altho it doesnt in the cold as well as it does in the summer. Go figure.

Also my previous 2003 W203 was starting to fail after 18 months and just popped open and not spring up.

Worked out what the problem was, well i think it was the problem! :D

When you pull back the trim on either side the spring is connected to one of three holes, on mine each side was different so i changed the position of the spring to provide more tension and hey presto it works!

Now wouldn't it be great if you had the closer like Sunman!

So I was correct then with the diagnosis...:D

Glad you got it sorted.

You were spot on!

Don't know how you removed the trim, i managed to pull it back by only removing a couple of clips.

Must say the spring was tight, wouldn't like to let go of it if you missed the hole!

Mine used to open fully with plastic triangle, but when that broke and was repaced with a sturdier version that weighed more it now pops open approx an inch.

Have a look at the springs, that is exactly what mine did, just basically pop an inch.
