Hi guys
I'm looking at upgrading the speakers in my 2002 c180 from what I've found out so far the size for the fronts is 6.5" but don't know about the backs, what is the biggest I can go without major modification
I've seen the speaker adaptors on eBay but are the really necessary Or can I mount the speakers directly too the door shell

Can anybody help out with some info please

Hmm, I have no experience of Merc audio.

However, when I used to modify my 90's saloon / coupe cars from, ahem München, I used to stick to stock locations, i.e. 6.5" JL Audio directly mounted into the footwell behind the kick plate (which I would suspect you can also do), and then a set of tweeters (with inline caps) glued on the grills from the inside on the door panels. All of this used stock wiring but cut at the back and wired into a Genesis amp.

I then stuck a subwoofer and amp in the boot and attached to a massive bridgeable Sony amp.

I ran both of these amps from the 2 x 4v or 6v (I forget now) RCA outputs on a £500 Alpina headunit (which I transferred along with the amps from one car to the next and just left the speakers in the front).

I wanted fair volume but more quality.

However, on one particular one which I wasn't going to keep, I just replaced the rear speakers with adapters you can buy which fit in the stock location, and allow you to expand out into the boot with 6x9s which worked well with some Dynamat.

I would imagine a similar deal is possible in yours?

They are 6.5" in the front doors, 5.25" in the rear doors as standard. You might be able to fit 6" in the rear, but the only way to tell is to whip off the door panel and have a look at the space available, but you may well need some spacers/adaptors to house them.

:)

Thanks for the replies got some thinking too do now as to what direction I will be going, I put a double din head unit in tonight and that made a massive difference in sound quality over the audio 10 next step is the speakers

What unit did you put in? I quite like the sound of my Audio10 but don't like the basic look or function!?

I got a xtrons td717g admittedly not as good as brand name units but over half the price, the sound quality is really good for a lower end unit I just couldn't get the sound I liked from the audio 10
