I keep reading in the manual that you can control an MP3 (and it also has an MP3 option on screen) - when I plug my iPhone into the glove box 3.5mm jack the MP3 option becomes available but I can only play it manually and not control it.

Other people have said that you can Bluetooth the control....anyone have any luck with connection an iPhone or iPod so it can be controlled by the COMMAND centre????

You won't be able to control the iPod/iPhone using the 3.5mm cable. If your c class is the new facelift then it should be able to stream Bluetooth audio from your iPhone/iPod provided you have comand.

If your car is the pre facelift then I don't think that you will be able to play music using Bluetooth without a retrofit being installed.

If your car has the media interface then you can connect your iPod/iPhone and control the tracks through comand that way instead.

Rob is spot on

You need the Media Interface to control it via a cable that would have come with the car or on the newer cars, Bluetooth Audio works really well on the MB

How old is your car and what system does it have?

Media interface came standard with Comand so are you sure you dont have media interface?

The media interface came as standard on the pre-facelift cars with COMAND, but NOT on the Executive-SE. This came with COMAND as standard but the media interface was still an optional extra. Thus if the car in question is an Executive-SE then you will not be able to control an iPod - only playback via the 3.5mm jack.

Looking at the OP., I would say the car is a C63

Mark you're spot on - C63 from 2009 with the fold up/down nav screen. Nothing in glove box except the 3.5mm jack, but the US manual (the only one I could get in English from 2009) from that year and my French manual all talk about connection to and control of mp3. Also it has the mp3 grayed out on the audio screen, and i think that only appears when I plug in the glove box jack even though it will only be audible through the aux option. Bit confused - PS I'm in France in case youre wondering why I needed an online manual!

Have you had a look inside the centre arm rest. This is where all the connections for the media interface are. Not in the glove box.

The connections are in the glovebox, but you need the iPod specific cable to control an iPod or iPhone. If you are certain your car has the UMI, you should have been given 3 cables with it, one 3mm, one USB and one iPod.

They should look like this:

Comand Online Ltd :: Mercedes iPod solutions :: Media Interface cable set for A/B/C/CLS/E/GLK/SL/SLK

S

PS You should also have a 4gb internal drive to load MP3s onto if need be - the 'music register'.

PPS This is the US manual, but pretty much the same http://www.mercupgrades.com/manuals/navigation/USA-COMAND-NTG4-W204-MY09-manual.pdf

Post facelift the connection moved to the centre arm rest.

Understood but the OP car is pre-facelift so just clarifying it moved to centre glovebox afterwards.

Do you actually have a socket in the glovebox that is a round 3.5mm socket or is there a cable with square connector plugged into the socket in the glovebox and the other end is an 3.5mm socket? If the later that is the media interface and you should have two other cables for it as in the link Simon M posted.
