W205 reverse camera - intermittent issue

The other day I put the car in reverse and the screen didn't change from the media screen to the reverse camera as it should. There were no error messages
I checked the options in the system setting menu, ie. that the camera should activate when R is selected and I also manually dropped the flap down using the menu and the flap opened normally.

For the next few reverse manoeuvres I did the camera still refused to show on the display. But, then all of a sudden it stated working as normal!

Has anyone experienced this before or has any comments?

Weird..... I have also just started to have exactly the same issue, although mine appears to be 'permanently' intermittent.
Have booked in with Dealer for it to be sorted, along with other main issue of the ipad style screen having frozen on 3 occassions so far, which makes the car pretty much useless.... not able to change aircon, radio, etc etc etc.

I've not had the freezing issue yet. I wonder if COMAND runs on Windows ME :)

All joking aside though, I don't believe that any software is foolproof, even the F1 teams have to occasionally do an occasional reboot when the car is in a race. No software is infallible.

Maybe so, but it's still alarming on a great new car.

I often wonder what proportion of todays modern car equipment will be working when the car is 10-15 years old.

Are cars getting far too complicated now-a-days?

Ok ok, I'm a 'grumpy old man today!!!:wallbash:

Good luck fellas. Had my S205 for 3 weeks and have done 1600 miles...no issues so for. Fingers crossed.

Hi James. I see your keeping your average weekly mileage at a sensible level???

Hope your still loving your new obsession. Post some more pics when you get time.

In respect to software bugs, the cars get better the older they are (most of the significant bugs appear when the car is released and get gradually fixed).

Your concern is valid for hardware issues.

Would you prefer to purchase a new W205 with W201 like features to make it more reliable for the owner after 15 years or would you prefer it as it is to make it enjoyable for yourself? Or can you see another option without such a compromise?

Haha...a 600 mile round trip to Newcastle last weekend didn't help. Neither will the 400 mile round trip to Ipswich I am making on Tuesday. Cars are to be driven though right?

I can honestly say there isnt anything I don't like about the car, love driving it and looking at it. The 5hrs trip to Newcastle was a breeze, didn't feel tired at all.

Car needs a clean...I'll post some more pics when I've cleaned it up a bit!

Not at all. My post was not a compliant. I adore new cars, their technology and their looks. It was just an innocent question.

Don't hate me, can we make up now! :o

You're so right. Car ARE to be driven. I'm be more surprised and shocked if you'd done only a few miles.

Good to hear you've nothing but good to say about the car. Enjoy it mate.

Look forward to more pics once washed. :thumb:

I had a hiccup on the COMAND system this weekend - the audio from the internal hard drive wouldn't play. Bluetooth and radio were fine.
After leaving the car parked up overnight everything was back to normal.

I think we have to expect some odd irregular issues occasionally :(

Wife's W205 having same issues mentioned in post 1

happened a few times

also car juddering ( dual mass fly wheel issue)?? I WONDER

1st service next week so software update and work to be carried out

Xentry scan shows a couple collision prevention entries and 1 error code B143A11(microphone short)

apparently 8 x software upgrades performed at todays service
will report findings

All of this from a practically brand new merc? Not looking good.....

Seems this issue hasn't gone away. I have a nearly 6 year old W205, bought second hand last June, his issue has been intermittent for the last month or so.

And now it’s stopped completely. It drops but I get no picture at all. Apparently it’s likely to be a broken wire in the tailgate. Very poor if so!!!

Could also be the result of water ingress into the wiring, connectors, or camera.

True I guess, but I would have thought this would distort the picture on its way out. With mine it either worked or didn’t which does suggest a faulty connection or wire somewhere. Trouble is it all seems stupid difficult to get at. It’s in for service and MOT in Jan. I’ll get them to see if it has a fault code.
